My girl and I are also interested in old bikes...'70's and early '80's Japanese bikes, cafe racers, old Triumphs and Nortons, English twins, etc. Old CB's and KZ's.
Anyone have any cool pics of cool bikes? Flat tanks and flat seats are cool! |
Well, here's a paintshop of the '79 CX500-based TRIKE I'll be building after I get the SuperPhaeton on the road:
http://www.carcentric.com/Roxinante.jpg Update: The rear fenders will be from a Beetle. |
this is mine, it's a 77 cb5504-k i got it ransformed to a cafee racer wih clubmans and a mac 4-1 exaust. I still would like to change the seat, make it a single seat with a hard cover at the rear, lose the grab bar change the indicaters and lower the front just a touch. this thing is awesome to ide, very comfortable. I aso just got rid of a 66 suzuki t-20 2 stroke tc 250, and my friend got a 63 honda silver wing 80cc. some guy just gav it to him :Idunno:
ayway, here's the 550 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...newpics001.jpg |
here's my vespa.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...lles/vespa.jpg i've got a bone stock 72 honda cb500 too, but i gotta do some work to it before it runs. |
Aircooled, that bike is SWEET! That's exactly what we're looking for. Preferably something 600cc or smaller.
VWuber...you wouldn't want to sell yours would you? |
it's been my dad's since i was a little kid & he gave it to me so i'd kinda like to hang onto it but i dunno i might be inclined to if the offer was right. it needs some fuel system work, it sat with gas in the tank that went bad.
i found a pic of it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...east/dads1.jpg it's in his garage actually, near raleigh nc. |
Go scheck out www.ironcross.net Coolest bikes and forum anywhere. Many folks with a similar view of the world as I see here.

About the coolest Cafe I've seen:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/honda-cb-75...1QQcmdZViewItem |
Hmm, wwe're not too far from Raleigh. Wonder what it would take to get that bike adopted by a couple of cool enthusiasts who would get it back on the road?
|
only to then sell it for a song to a broke bastard a few miles south. Hmmm... :funny:

Well, I may not be one to ask what the cafe 'rules' are. As far as I'm concerned, looking the way it does, it could have plastic wheels and I'd still call it a cafe.

Very cool jroy. I wish we could find something like that close to home. There's just something about the style of these bikes posted here. They're what I think of when I remember motorcycles...not a crotch rocket or a chromed out Harley.
|
Here is a pic of my 84 Goldwing, still got a few things left to finish, but I got to legally ride it last weekend.
http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g5...g/DSCN0302.jpg http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g5...g/DSCN0307.jpg This thing originally was an Aspencade. :sawzall: |
here's mine. it's a '73 cb750. cafe baby!!

what kind of condition are you looking to buy one?? Might have a lead on one that needs a good amount of work, but will be super cheap -JustinD

Scott, give these guys up in Gastonia a call:
Gaston Motorcycle Shop 4110 S New Hope Rd Gastonia , NC 28056 (704) 824-9666 They're an independent shop and have a yard full of old bikes. I doubt they'll have any English bikes though, probably mostly Japanese stuff. It's been a number of years since I've been in there but I do drive by it once in a while and they still have a lot of old bikes sitting around. Might be a lot of junk now but they may have something that'll work for you. Worth a shot, anyway. |
|

I had always wondered what it would look like also.
I found this bike cheap on eBay and decided to go for it. Its a blast to ride, I figure I shaved around 200lbs off the bike. |

edit: actually, to the guy that was interested in my honda, i'd be interested in trading it for a bmw... |

I used to have one of these (not this particular one, but same year, model and colours)
http://www.classic-bikes.dk/Billeder/HONDA/cbx550.jpg It was an '83 CBX550F and was a Europe and Canada model only. It was an inline 4 with quad carbs and mine had a 4-1 header. It just flat out screamed! It would easily keep up with the mid 90's ZX6 and 7 Kawi's and with the huge dual inboard vented brakes it could stop on a dime. I absolutely loved that bike but after throwing rods in 2 different motors I decided to give it up. Turns out there was a factory design flaw in the oiling system that would cause one rod bearing to run dry so almost all of these bikes threw a rod at some point. I found out after selling the bike that it is a simple fix and I wish I would have kept it. One day I'd like to get another one if I could ever find another one... ThrasheR |
Here are the "before" pics of my next two bike projects - a 1966 Ducati 250 Monza and 1966 Ducati 160 Monza Jr. I was mainly interested in the 250 (yellow one) but the guy made me a package deal on both :
http://www.teamyikes.com/Resources/Monza001_s.jpg http://www.teamyikes.com/Resources/MonzaJr004_s.jpg The squared off bodywork and high bars have to go. Plan for the 250 is an early '60s looking cafe style bike, all black with polished aluminum components. Plan for the 160 is still up in the air. I need to finish my current bike project (a '74 Ducati 750) before I start on the 250, but I seem to have already bought a couple of gas tanks and have my eye on a few other parts so I guess I'm already kind of working on both of them??? The 750 HAS to get finished before I start pulling the singles apart though... |

Nowhere near everything is posted though, I've taken literally hundreds while working on it. After almost three years, it's finally nearing completion. I recently finished painting it and am now timing the cams so I can put the engine back in the frame. I've posted pics of it here before, but at the risk of experiencing the off topic wrath of the rodders, I'll post few more. This one is pretty much "current state" though I have got new badges for it: http://www.teamyikes.com/Resources/Paint1374_m.jpg Here is a "before" pic to give you an idea of what I started with: http://www.teamyikes.com/Resources/RoundcaseB4tn.jpeg Here's an "in progress" shot featuring "Desmo", our wondermutt. They had a couple at Mid Ohio last July and I really liked the "Sport" model. But I think if I bought another new Duc (not likely, unless I sell a few things) I'd go with the new 1000cc Monster S2R. |

I just missed out on this KZ400 on eBay. I would have bid more aggressively if I didn't already have so many projects going on. The sad part is that a dealer won it. So you know it'll be back up for sale with a 100% mark up now!

[attachmentid=8791] It's a 78 XS650 that has sat around the back yard for two years since it was hauled back from a music festival in the back of a transit van after letting me down. It later turned out that one of the fuel lines had worked loose & the tank had simply drained itself of gas. I discoverd this after replacing the coils & checking the electrics because I KNEW that there was plenty of gas in it! What a dickhead eh? Um, whats the rat fink bike? I still got to do a graphic onthe fender and tank, and I was thinking some sort of scalop design, bt I can'r decide on a color, maby black with a silver pin, or white with a tan pearl with a silver pin. Started mocking up the '66 Ducati. The tank and seat are going to change, but the fenders, headlight, and bars will be about like this. I may remove the valance on the front fender... or not. Haven't quite decided yet... the 250 will be getting valanced fenders front and rear so I may go with something more "sporty" on this one. I'm also going with 17" wheels rather than the 16" wheels it has now, so the front fender will be closer to the tire when I'm done...

Since I can't seem to focus on one thing at a time, the bug sits waiting for
an engine and my son and I have to start on something else. It's a 78 cb550 we've been hardtailing the last month or so. We still need to finish up the carbs, figure out the wiring, mount the tank..... too much crap to do, we just want to ride the damn thing. Just curious what you guys think about the mustang tank compared to the stock tank?[attachmentid=10849] [attachmentid=10850] |
This HAS to be my favorite custom bike. There's just something about Jesse Rooke's bikes that really catch my eye.

Where the hell is the Gas tank?
I think it has a split oil/gas tank. That's the only thing I can come up with. Looking at the pics (I added the other side view) there are 2 caps on it. |
Jesse's bikes are very cool! Kinda taps into that Stingray bicycle most of us had back in the day. The oil/gas tank occupy the same area...obviously not a cross country scoot.
For more than 40 pages of cool "Jap" bike pics check out the Chopper Underground Jap thread USA bikes here Brit Bikes And last but not least! Others including my fave..Trikes! http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d4...0/trike5kx.jpg |

I'm also going with 17" wheels rather than the 16" wheels it has now, so the front fender will be closer to the tire when I'm done... http://www.teamyikes.com/Resources/Mockup2023.JPG
Getting a little further along on it now... http://www.teamyikes.com/Resources/Mockup_2516.JPG That's the tank I'll be using, along with the 17" wheels. Toolboxes are mounted, seat pan modified, it's almost ready to start the teardown to refinish everything . |
Re: Motorcycle Thread
Trikes are motorcycles (by law, anyway), so this isn't really off-topic:
http://www.ozht.com/trike/graphics/trike_014lg.jpg Show of hands - who here REALLY NEEDS something like this? :hello: :hello: :hello: :hello: :hello: :hello: :hello: :hello: :hello: :hello: BTW, if there's a way for non-moderators to make thumbnails that will link to an online pic, the method should be written up in the sticky threads. I haven't found instructions, so this picture is BIG. Apologies to dialup members. |
