Re: Motorcycle Thread
Jeex Mike, don't tell me you got one of those too?? A bunch of years back a buddy went to clean out a barn, as in they paid him, including "some kind of old rusty motorcycle." Yup, while I would have found a beat up old Honda, Craig came home with and old Beemer running a 40 hp VW. The clutch cable was gone, maybe why it was parked, but we got it running in an afternoon. 'Had dual Solex's, straight pipes, sounded great and ran like stink.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
although i like the idea behind it....that frame doesnt look like it would hold a lawnmower motor let alone a vw!! just my oppinion...but theres a bike in another post that could use that motor to match his oil tank!!:Idunno:

Re: Motorcycle Thread
streetsweeper , thats a nice gose neck bike !!

Re: Motorcycle Thread
thanks! i bet its gonna suck in a parking lot though! rake on it is 50 degrees...and the neck was dropped 4 inches..so its gonna be a tricky one at slow speeds.

For about a year I worked at Polaris in what became the Victory motorcycle group. A sportbike was talked about but never built - it was going to be a triple BTW. And as already mentioned, Polaris is an American company. Headquarters is in Minnesota. Bike engineering started out in Wisconsin and moved to Minnesota a few years ago. Some of the manufacturing is done in Iowa. They do have a facility about ten miles south of Canada in Roseau, MN, but that's as close to being Canadian as they get. |

Electrical question/ help
Alright, I have an ignition/electrical question for you motorcycle guys (but could also be related to cars).
My CB750's coils, I believe, have a rating of 4 or 5 ohms and I'm interested in throwing on a set of newer model, hotter sparking coils. The new coils have a rating of 2.5-2.8 ohms but will be eating up my new points left and right. Here's the question: Is there a device that can be installed to allow a lower ohm resistant coils to work on my bike? |
Re: Motorcycle Thread
Just picked up a 69 honda cb175 to make a bobber, will try and get pics up i a few days.
|
Re: Electrical question/ help
If it is a single cam motor with points you could get away with running some dyna 3 ohm coils but prob nothing less as the coils swill prob run to hot. I would think you would want to go with a Dyna S igntion if you are wanting better spark getting rid of the points would help. i fyou really need alot of spark you could get a dyna 4000 or 2000 box the 2000 takes 2.2 ohm coils and the 4000 takes .7ohm but that is prob overkill for a stock motor if that is what you have

Re: Electrical question/ help
Quote:
I've read up on the Dyna coils but they are out of my price range, plus I know for a fact that the Dyna 3 ohm's need the electronic ignition set up. I'm staying with the stock points set up (spent $50+ on an OEM points plate not too long ago and don't want to spend more money to replace it). I know the 2-3 ohm coils that I want to buy will be rough on the points but produce a way better spark. I was hoping to find a contraption/device that will allow me to run those coils with my points set up without the headache of burning the points up. I'm still clueless as to whether the stock coils I have now are above or below the 2-3 ohm range. Below perhaps? :Idunno: This shit is confusing... but thanks for the help anyway. |

Re: Motorcycle Thread
he keeps changing his ideas on the front. Concentrating on finishing up the rear before tackling the front. Plus, out of argon, not much now til he gets another bottle.
Has thoughts of an 40's (?) dodge truck tear drop headlight. Will have to dig the local junk yards to see whats still useable first. |

nope its a 175. Im just playing with it for now tring to clean it up and get it running.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
175 is a fun bike. I had one with the high side pipes. Built it out of two dead ones for my wife to learn on. Except for one leaky carb (tweeked float bowl) it ran fine and was great on the back roads.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Well it's pissing rain again and suposed to continue right through next weekend so I now have some time to post my report from this last Saturday.
Started out at about 9am and met my friend Mike for breakfast. I ordered the waffle special and (of course) a side of bacon. Apparently at this particular establishment a side of bacon is about a 1/2lb. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture001.jpg After eating we went to pick up Mike's friend Randy at his place. Mike on the left, Randy on the right http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture002.jpg From Randy's we headed across to the north side of the Mighty Fraser River for some foothill twisties. This road takes a hard left and turns into a veritable roller coaster through the hills  http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture003.jpg Mike and Randy http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture004.jpg Me http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture005.jpg Random scenery http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture006.jpg Randy went home to attend tto his honey-do list and Mike and I headed back over th Fraser to Fort Langley for a coffee. Mike ordered some cinnamon latte froofy thing and was a little embarrassed when the cute server girl brought it out to him http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture007.jpg I scored a tiki mug for the home tiki bar at a junk store next to a gas station along the way but I didn't take a picture. All in all a pretty wicked day of riding and hangin with good friends. I think I've said it before but I really can't complain about days like that in mid February in BC. |
Re: Motorcycle Thread
well today i trimmed the front fender and added the spacers for the fender brakets i had made by the machine shop . Now all i have to do it weld in the licince plate holder and then i can brake it down for paint . I'm really happy about the way she turned out .

I thought I'd give an update on a bike I've been keeping my eye on since I started working for Mitch.
Before: http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...blic/berg2.jpg After: Paint, front wheel (100 spoke with twisted chrome spokes), cables, brake lines, and a bit of striping. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...c/IMG_0172.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...c/IMG_0173.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...c/IMG_0174.jpg and some wiring: http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i1...c/IMG_0175.jpg A local striper from Banning did the stripes and paint. Looks killer so far. I wish the bike was MINE. Since I haven't the time to work on my own bike or v-rod project, I've been keeping busy documenting the work at the shop lately. |
