As soon a I read Jimmy Buffet I knew where your were going wit it. I just get excited every time I see or hear the word tequila, I'm thinking it has something to do with all the tequila I've drank over the years (it must give me a slight "drunk like feeling" I'll stick with that story )

My wife & I just woke up so I'll wait till she leaves for work before I watch it, I don't wanna send her off with an overwelming feeling that I might laugh myself to death, ya see she likes quiet before she leaves, me, I like to talk (I bet ya's didn't see that coming did ya's) ya see I sit home all day alone M thru F, on days when I can't get up to do anything I talk to the people who call trying sell stuff or taking surveys & try to get them off topic as much as I possibly can, I ask them how the weather is where their at if their into any sports & if they like their home team or not, anything at all trying anything until they hang up on me, it makes a boring hohum day fun, I do the same with the door to door people as well, being the last house on the street some of the repeat offenders skip our house, I get a laugh about that, IF I'm outside I'll yell to them "Hey aren't ya coming here?" most of them ignore me, a few do walk back and bullshit with me for a while, usually it's the mail carriers
that stop for a while to take a break, but they change them about twice a year

This thread about days that suck took a sharp left turn, but it was SO Much fun

Today you should have yourself a relaxing day relax and just hang out. Maybe sit and read a novel. How about one of the classics, like, um, 'Tequila Mockingbird?'

This could be long seeing how I have a few things to bitch about, either way it's still been a fantastic few weeks

So at the end of February I finished putting the used transmission a friend gave me, I got the engine in my Volksrod & took it for a few test drives up n down the street, everything seemed good to go, I just needed to renew the registration so I could drive it legally, it really sucks being stuck at home with no way to go anywhere without walking, lucky for me the grocery store is only about an 800 foot walk from my house if I cut thru the neighbor's yard that lives behind me, if I need something from the hardware store or the pharmacy that's 6 tenths of a mile away, I usually wait till my wife gets home, it still sucks
So on March 25th I went & renewed the registration, put the sticker on the licence plate & took off to the gas station, it barely had any gas, maybe a 1/4" on my gauge stick, so I took off up the street about a 1/2 mile to the stop sign to get onto the main road, so as I pushed in the clutch pedal at the stop sign it went to the floor & I hear a real loud clattering from the back, last time I experienced that feeling & sound the clutch bearing forks broke off

Needless to say I wasn't very happy, I coasted it home into the driveway & haven't touched it till today, I raised it up & put it on stands for tomorrow, wish me luck on that

Now I'm gonna bitch about my wife's car, it's a 2001 Ford Escort ZX2, it needs front end work, back in December I tried to put an axle on the drivers side, I couldn't get the wheel off the car, I should a put the tools away right then, but I got a 4 foot long piece of 4 by 4 & smacked it & it came right off, had trouble with the brake caliper, then couldn't get the Flippin ball joint off, I called my oldest son to come help me, meanwhile I tried to loosen the rest of the bolts, they wouldn't budge, I know I've lost a lot of muscle mass over the last few years, but it was starting to really bother me, then my son got here, I watched him struggle with everything I did, I felt so much better he finished it up, then 3 weeks ago I get a call from her on a rainy day, she went thru a deep puddle & the power steering went out & the battery light came on, I told her to turn the heat on high & drive home, when she got home the belt looked fine, I put it back on, then 2 days later I took it somewhere & had them put the other side axle on as well as a set of tires & an algnment, I'm sending it back to have struts put on next week, I'm not touching her car again

So I thought, she called me last week on her way home & told me the power steering went out again & the battery light came on again, she knew what to do to get home, meanwhile I walked up to Autozone (I don't like buying from them but they are right across the street from the grocery store), I get a belt, walk home when my wife pulls in
I put the belt on, 3 days later it comes off, this time I check every pulley on it to make sure there's no problems, everything appears to be fine, so I put the new belt on, 2 days later she hits a puddle & the flipping thing comes off again, this time it shreds the belt, I put the old one on but I put it on backwards & it's been on for almost 2 weeks now

What sucks about that car is you darn near hafta raise the engine up 3 inched to get the 2 idler pulleys off, the tension pulley looks easy enough to replace, but the dang things don't need it
IF this belt comes off again I'm taking it somewhere, it's not a VW, that's all I'm working on from now on

She's just gonna hafta get one

Do a Google search on The belt coming off... You're gonna find the tensioner pulley is not returning pressure as it should at times... Not something easy to diagnose... if the bearings on the idlers are OK, that's all you have. unless a bearing in the alternator or A/C clutch are failing, but that wouldn't typically happen without some noises to identify them.

Well today my wife & I had some family business to deal with about a half hour after she got off work, so I drove her to work, met my mom & aunt at my grandma's house to see if there was anything we might want, I'll show ya's some stuff I brought home in another thread with pics, I put some miles on it, roughly 55, I picked my wife up after work & took care of business, for the first time ever in my life I decided to use valet parking where we went, they had our car out front waiting for us as soon as we walked out, we happened to see an old friend going in, we talked for about 15 minutes, got in the car & pulled out, it had a tight right hand turn to get out, as soon as the steering reached its limit we hear slap slap slap, then the battery light came on, my says "you drove it way to much & ruined it" , we only had about 8 miles to go so off we went, about half way home it started to rain purty hard come on gimme a break, about 2 miles from home it slowed up, pulled into the driveway up under the carport & it stopped, they were calling for severe thunderstorms since yesterday to hit right about that time, so I grabbed my bumpershute just in case the sky opened up & dropped buckets of rain on me as I was headed to Autozone
So this time I bought the next size smaller belt, walked out crossed the main round thru our township when I was sropped in my tracks, I seen 2 simultaneous bolts of lightning stike off in the distance behind where our house was, first thing I said was "God, PLEASE LET ME HAVE A SAFE WALK HOME" about the time I finished saying that I hear the super loud crackle of thunder, after all a few days ago I'm almost positive I almost got struck by lightning
I get home, again Autozone is maybe a 1,000 feet in a straight line from my house, took me about 15 minutes to put the belt on, I could prolly do in the pit row of an all ZX2 race, I tell ya I'm good at it, so I'll see how it goes, if it pops off I'm gonna replace the water pump & put the timing belt on I bought almost 2 years ago, 178,000 miles on it I think it's time, oh yeah, I bought the belt with a 1 year warranty, so IF it comes off that's covered
Then when my son gets back I'm gonna have him put a steerlng rack on it & new struts, I may even splurge & buy spark plugs this weekend
My wife bought the car Jan 19th 2008 three days after I totaled my S10 Blazer, our only running car at the time, the Escort had 77,000 miles then, she did the dealing, they wanted $4500 for it, she walked out with a big ole smile on her face, she paid $3,600 tax title & all, been a damn good lil car for her, I don't care to work on it, it's nothing like a VW & I don't care to learn anything, well, oil changes, brakes, the plugs look easy enough, might even get back up to 30 mph like it did when we first got it, oh yeah, the dadgum belt as well
Oh yeah, about the time I got the belt on they said on the radio that storm just missed downtown Cinci, what a day it was here

Power rack and pinion? When it hit full Lock? Hmmm.... This ain't telling me it needs a water pump... rack... Ok maybe... but isn't there a source like a power steering pump for that assisted rack? Check that pulley for play and/or binding... I'd find that more likely fo an issue... (Looked up and indeed there is a Power steering pump involved by what I saw and it's pretty tiny...)

Thank ya BTW

The steerlng rack needs to be replaced for other reasons, we can get a used one for $30
A few weeks ago the morning after putting a new belt on somebody parked real close to her, she had to keep moving back n forth turning the wheel from one side to the other, after several times the belt popped off
I also forgot to mention that I had my son replace both idler pulleys back in June of 2015, that belt lasted until this past March, March was a bad belt month
When I picked up the first new belt this past February, they gave me an 855, I could not get it on, even with someone helping me, it was on a Sunday, so I had to go to Autozone, I went back & got an 865, that's when the problem began, being metric I didn't even thing to get an 860 which is what I got tonight

I only go to Autozone if my usual parts place is closed, they've been in the same place for about 50 year, the original owner still works there, most everyone else has been there since I was 15 years old in 1981, they ALL know me & what their doing, my nephew got a job at Autozone, he only knows how to drive a car & add gas, he could possibly air up his tires & maybe put oil in it, but if I were a betting man I'd put money down that his dad, my brother does that stuff for him, my nephew is a computer genius tho

I don't know if you took away from my last post that all we did was drive this car, changed the oil & filter usually just once a year, sometimes twice a year, it has all the original ignition parts, the only parts we replaced on it were the ball joints, tie rod ends & wheel bearings
I'm sure it's gonna need an alternator & power steering pump, but I check then with an indicator, their pulleys & bearings are good
Right now we hafta hold on to as much money as possible, Apil 28th their budget is up, my wife could get laid off for a while or possibly permenetly, happens at least once or twice every 18 months

All we can do is hope for the best, if they close the IRS & turn the work over to the private secter, my wife will lose hers, lucky for when I was on the transplant list for 18 months she got her according degree, the GOV had an accounting proffester come to her work at no cost for her, she could easily get a job, hopefully they keep her around for 4-1/2 years, she'll have her 30 years in & can collect a pull GOV pension
She's also certified to teach preschool aged kids, she only stayed at the GOV because the pay & benifits were great

Our old mower, that I have bashed on. welded and such over the past 14 years (that we got from the former homeowner)is finally eating it. The drive belt won't stay on AND I just put a new battery in it that I have to return as it is leaking acid out the bottom which dripped out of the new rack I made for it, started rotting the steel and welds away, drizzled down the transmission case, turning it to goop and making a puddle under the whole thing! So now we need a new mower.....
THEN, my new beetle wouldn't start or hold a charge. Look at the terminals and the neg cracked in half. So I have to replace the neg. line. No big deal on an old bug, but the new ones you have to rip half of the engine compartment apart just to find that the lead at the starter is part of a bundle that just doesn't come out all easy. I'll have to do some splicing to see if I can make it work.

Cut off both ends... run a new cable... wire tie it up to avoid shorts/damage

The mantra of designers of late model cars seems to be. "If there is a space, fill it with something so the owner/mechanic can't get a hand or even fingers in there to fix or change something."
When the left front T/S bulb in out '04 Volvo packed it in, I though, how hard can this be to fix? Sigh. When I nearly got my hand stuck between the bulb holder and the air cleaner box, I consulted the owner's manual...which shows lots and lots of room. The job finally took about a long as it takes to change the oil. Though a bit cleaner.

A few days ago I backed the S.C. out of the carport for a run up to town for gas. While I was warming her up, she suddenly quit, restarted once, stumbled along for a few seconds and that was it.
After some tinkering yesterday, I found the spark from the Accel coil seemed to be a bit on the ‘iffy’ side. As there was some light oil which appeared to come from the coil, I picked up a new one.
Today I checked out all the connections, the dual points, ballast resister, voltage to the coil, etc. Everything checked out, but this time there was no spark at all. Yup, after installing the new Accel coil, there was a nice blue/white spark and she fired right up.

According to my notes, I replaced the Accel coil which just failed, on the 19th of October of 2013. This is the third Accel since 2008.

I was really pleased that the old coil hadn’t quit on the way up to fill the tank. Looks like someone is watching over me and the truck.

Is this considered a "time to change brands" failure?

Got the beetle battery cable fixed. Pushed the mower out to the road with a free sign on it. A guy came by later that day and gave me $20 if I would hold it until the next day. I pushed it back and the guy still hasn't shown up for 6 days. If I don't see him by Monday, it's going back out.
Borrowed a mower but needed a new one so off to Home Depot to get a new Cub Cadet. It gets delivered Monday.
THEN, last night we started losing water pressure, called the pump guys. Nice guys to deal with this morning aaaaaand we needed a new pressure switch, tank and pump. Yep, the wallet is screaming in pain this week due to the glowing, red hot credit card. We get to turn the softener back on tomorrow, so until then it's hell with hard water.
THEN I got a call from the guy doing the wiring for my Subaru engine. The ECU and wiring I sent him doesn't match up, so I have to get a new ECU. Picking that up Tuesday to get sent to him.
So, how have you guys been?
Jeff
P.S. One good thing is that the well guys want me to do the graphics for their new truck.
