I didn't get a chance to work on the VWs any this past weekend or yesterday. I took the kids to see Herbie Reloaded (or maybe they took me). It was pretty cool, maybe not how I would have done it if I was a movie producer/Herbie fan but not too bad.

Then around 7pm my son's dachsund was attacked by a pit bull so my wife spent the evening at the emergency vet's until around 11:30. Of course the homeowner where the dog came out from said it wasn't her dog Animal control took the dog because it didn't have any tags or proof of rabies vaccination. But since ours was up to date on all it's shots they bulldog can be released today if the owner wants to claim it. Since it has attacked it might be put down if the owner doesn't claim it within 10 days. If someone claims it I'll have some legal footing to recover some of my expenses hopefully. The "alleged" owner told animal control she wasn't going to claim the dog.

Our dachsund has three layers of stitches around his neck and stitches in two places on top of his neck/head and drain tubes sticking out both sides of his neck. He looks like Frankendog. It looks like he'll be ok but it's going to kill me in vet bills. $540 for the emergency visit & surgery last night, he has to go back in four days to get the tubes removed and then again in seven days to get the stitches out. I've got pics if anyone wants to see them.

The vet said we got lucky, another 1/8" and it would have got the jugular and the dog would have died almost instantly.

Man, sorry to hear that. I had a dachaund when I was a kid, and It was my favorite dog ever! Fun little dogs they are! My aunt breed them for a while. I'd like to get another one someday...

Speedy recovery to the little guy (or gal)...

unfortunately, that kind of action/attitude etc is way too common. half the people in this world cant take care of themselves.....and we expect them to do better with pets?

sorry about the dachsund charlie we have a 9yr old miniature-dachsund she would not have survived that attack yours got.hope for the best..............with the pit-bulls reputation it would seem people would take the ownership of one more serious........................i'm an old hog hunter and i know their capabilities.... anyways.................you are a fine example of a good "responsible pet owner family"good luck charlie.

Thanks for the kind words. We got him as a puppy that I held in one hand eight years ago. My oldest son was four (it's his dog) and he's 12 now. my youngest son wasn't even born yet He's definately part of the family. I'm not a big animal lover as I've said before but I dig this little dog, he's cool and smart as hell.

Springdog, thanks for the generous offer but I don't think it will be neccesary this time. It will be tight for a few weeks having to spend probably $1000 by the time we're through that wasn't planned in the budget but that's life. It's funny, I have sooo much insurance on everything else and none on our pet. Is pet insurance available?? I'm sure it is.

Sorry to hear about the poor little pooch. Had one that looked just like that when I was a kid. Called him Peanut. Damn I miss that dog. Other than feeling bad for the dog, I thought about spraypainting my 82 Celica since I don't have any money to do anything on my Bus.

Yes, pet insurance is available and rather inexpensive (about as much as some renters insurance); good luck and hope he gets better!!
