Default Hurst shifter won't go into reverse.

Okay hope one of you masters can help me here.

My hurst shifter worked great in the 1968, the 1958, but with the 2002 mexibug it's giving me issues.

Has issues going into first when going down from the gears. And reverse is wonky. I've gotten it to work three times out of the twenty-seven I've tried. I'm a bit perplexed. As reverse isn't working I go forwards!

My shifter is intact it does have the base plate. It's an original hurst with the white bushing plate in good shape.
I just have no idea what is wrong. I browsed the samba and got a bunch of posts claiming the superiority of gene berg's shifters

Help?

The plate needs to be in the exact right spot.
Sliding the plate one way or the other, will fix the reverse problem.

Saw a post on STF, telling which direction to move the plate to solve problems in different gears.

Turns out it was not the shifter. The shifting coupled was worn out. Had a gut feeling and jiggled the shifter while watching it. The coupler moved side to side. It was missing half the threads for the screw. Replaced it with one from the 1968bug and blam all of the issues are solved!

Hmm who would have thunk?

Basically gotta keep the cash circle jerk a'flowin!

Why is it that the samba only supports parts that cost more than the cars ever cost?

Samba has a split personality.
Half 100 point resto, with the proper date codes on everything.
The other half, wants to see how expensive they can make something.

I found that funny. A lot of the time these restored cars are higher quality than what ever left the factory. I've seen a few original cars beside restored examples with the factory flaws being things the judges REAM the restored car for.

I don't get it. Probably why I'm here more than I'm ever there.
