WTF!!!!!
So there I was thinking about the next step on my ugly ass bug when a buddy of mine shows me a picture of what I have been trying to do. I thought I had seen it all before and that I was doing something that had not been done yet. But now I have seen that it was done in the '70's. DAMN IT!!!!! I thought I had an original idea here.
I was putting a Rumble Seat in the back of my bug. I am using the luggage shelf as the seat. Making a cut straight down 1" behind the doors and level the ass end in line at the bottom mold line of the rear windows. I'm forming the sheet metal to make a "Trunk" and then going to make the Rumble Seat here. I am also planning on making a 1940 hood for the front and smack the fenders off.
I am still going to do this. The cars that I saw with this done had a fiberglass kit. I'm using steel here.
DAMN THOSE FIBERGLASS BASTARDS!!!!!!
I need another Pabst!!!!

Re: WTF!!!!!
There are very few "new" ideas.
The best we can hope for is to improve on what has already been done.

Re: WTF!!!!!
Remember that statement, sometimes people get their little panties in a giant wad when you "improve" on their design..

Re: WTF!!!!!
I think I have an original idea for a vw.
Of course, I could be wrong, just because I have never seen it doesn't mean it hasn't been done. OK, it's been done, just not on a vw...'cept sorta like the...nevermind.

Re: WTF!!!!!
Just ask the owners of a certain rod forsale now on the Samba, they got all twisted when they thought they had an original design, and then were promptly shot down. it is for sale now and they havent been back here in months. There is a locked thread about it around here somewhere.

With over 21 million bugs out there, its gotta be pretty damn hard to come up with something that hasn't been tried before.
...just do it better.

Re: WTF!!!!!
People been try'n to re-invent the wheel for ages. Do what you like, in the method that pleases you. There are probably original ideas left, I don't have any, but that's because they are so blatent that they are obvious or so miniscule that they have just been looked over. It's sorta like people named John getting pissed about other people being named John. Yeah, so What's gonna change that? If I wanna build something like a Heb and call it a hebster then so be it, without a patent on the design it's a free shot. Maybe it would be hebster #5000, so what, it's still a heb inspired car that is based on the original Heb designed and patented by Volkswagen. The difference occurs when one takes the name of someones pet project. I wouldn't want to use Alteisen because that's a personal name, but on the other hand if it were just called BUGTRUCK I would use it with no remorse because the name reflects what it looks like. It would be BUGTRUCK2 or 500 who cares. The same can be said about the design of the project, pickk what you like, add your own flare and give it a personal name.
If the problem is you want credit for an original idea, well then you better get your thinking cap on. People have been searching for their proverbial "Holy Grail" for thousands of years.
BTW: BGW Spectre has been offering a rumble seat option for their speedster for 30 or more years. Search it here, you'll find lots.

Re: WTF!!!!!
Oh I'm building the bastard!!!! But it will probably not be better than the glass kits. I am learning as I go. I have a budget of about $800, and no welder. Most everything that I am using is stuff that I am getting for free.
One other thing that I am going to try to do has been done quite a few times. I kept the engine form my old Vanagon. I was also smart enough to save the aft (Yes, I'm a Sailor!) motor mount bar that goes from one side to the other. All I need to do to it is change the fuel injection to carb.
And instead of chopping the top I have glassed in a "mexican visor". I hope this is the only fiberglass on the bastard.
Thanks for your responses. I just needed to vent a bit. And now I need to stop at the store after work to replace the extra Pabst I drank last night!!!!!

Dude, that is the same shit that I saw yesterday!!!!
But I promise you, mine is going to be MUCH UGLIER!!!!! I want people to have to get a shot in the eye when they see my bastard!!!!!
Well, maybe not THAT ugly. But it will be easy to see that it is garage built and not a glass kit.

Re: WTF!!!!!
I thought I had an original idea with the Tiki Tub, never seen anything like it before. Then someone, maybe Jon, posted a pics of one the same damn way. I think it was SI Swimsuit pic. It had the bamboo door caps, thatch roof, surfboard ,same color and even had the hybiscas (sp) print on it. Mine has a bit more volks rod in it but still, damn, even the same color!
here it is.
Here is my concept

as long as you get the looks and compliments then you know job well done
cool lokin ride though. and steel is way better
