Re: UK VW Rusto-ROD epic
So, after a busy event season in 2015 we are looking forward to our last event for the year....a swap meet with some history.
After many years of staging the event, venuebut now with ill health, falling footfall and the threat of the venue closing the original team decided to retire.
However, fueled with young enthusiasm and energy, two young guys took it on.
Leveraging social media and forums they staged the event last year to a very good turnout and the positive mood was set for a bright future.
Now, in their second year of running they have big plans to grow the event out of it's current venue so to accommodate the increased attendance.
What is this event you speak of Colin? I hear you ask......I give you Slough Swap Meet.
I, and my buddies, have attended SSM for the last 8 years and I've traded there for the last 4 years. So, here we are again...preparing for the one day of frantic trading, eating bacon butties and meeting up with old friends....in fact this has all the ingredients any good swap meet should have.
I will be driving the Beetle loaded with shiny VW stuff to sell.
Here's a Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/swapmeetslough/?fref=ts
Pictures to follow....

Edit, Googled them,,,, now I must go make one,,,,,, with peanut butter.

A great British food staple, mainly eaten for breakfast by builders, but not exclusively. A renowned 'hangover cure' and general allround tasty snack. Accompanied by brown or tomato sauce, peanut butter is a new one on me. Now I like bacon and I like peanut butter...hmmm I see where this is going now
Here's a review of the day at Slough Swap Meet:
What a great day out at Slough Swap Meet. Sold some stuff, met lots of folk, chatted about shocks and steering wheels and sold some as well yay! A most excellent event, great buzz, folk all seem pleased to attend and spend their hard earned on bargains.
Car park was FULL with some excellent aircooled vehicles braving the November mist. Stayed dry which was a massive bonus and really made the event I think. Mooching about the car park is as interesting as snooping around the trade tables sniffing out your particular bargain.
A big thank you to all who bought something off me today, appreciate your patronage and hope you enjoy your purchased item.
And a picture.

Cheers chaps.

This gallery has just popped up and covers what turned up on a cold November Sunday in the UK....hardcore VW nutters. Well worth a scroll through IMO

I have you right. It had declined in recent years, falling footfall meant traders stayed away, so less folk turned up and the downward spiral continued until the organisers decided to call it a day.
Fortunately, two young guns thought they would give it a shot. With a bit more social media savvy and support from VW forum members there was an increase in interest and attendance. That was last year, this year was even better attended, both in aircooleds in the car park and footfall in the trading hall.
The only bugbear (sorry, pun not intended ) now is the car parking. As the venue is a public sports centre, next to an ice arena, the car park is open to the public. Thereby lies the problem....it fills up very early on and then finding a spot is offputting, factor in the risk of damage to your vehicle from a 'family wagon' clouting it, there are many who are nervous.
If the support in attendance continues an new, exclusive venue must be found to accommodate VW folk and give the freedom to organise even more options to visitors.
I think this event proves: If you want it use it, make the effort and you'll get out more than you put in. It also proves the power of social media used in a positive way to raise awareness and interest.
Long live Slough Swap Meet
