Re: Motorcycle Thread
Does anybody know of a good type / brand battery that will survive the vibration of my special construction Harley that just killed my fairly new low mileage battery on my first ride that consisted of going 30 miles on the freeway instead of circling the houses in my neighborhood.........
How's that for a run on sentence
Glad I have AAA for my bike...... 30 miles is way too far to walk......

Re: Motorcycle Thread
I run a piece of 1/4" closed cell beneath and on top of the reqular type lead acid battery in my Ironhead. It really helps.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Back in May 1981 I left Cambridge, England on my 1959 BSA A10 650...and just headed south. Down to southern Italy across the Med to Alexandria, Egypt. Followed the River Nile from its mouth to its source in Ginja, central Uganda. Headed east into Kenya then south through Tanzania and Zambia. Arrived in Harare, Zimbabwe on 6 April 1982. A great adventure..a highlight of which was a few months working on a Geo-Source Petty Ray seismic oil exploration team in south-west Sudan. The job got me the money to continue the trip.
Managed to replace a bent front fork leg (plus bush and oil seal) for a princely $15 in Kampala, Uganda.
Pic 1: The bike looking pretty fresh beside Tegensee, south of Munich, Germany.
Pic 2: Lunch beside the road with some Kenyan truckers...somewhere between Juba, Sudan and Nimule on the Ugandan border.
Pic 3: Replacing the fork leg in Kampala.
Gotta bike...gotta travel.

I am looking for a battery in my bike & I've found that autozone has jell cells there in stock. Aren't jell cell batteries supposed to be good in high vibration situations? I thought that was one of the selling points, that & if you had to you can mount them in any direction. I've found they are cheaper there (autozone) than at cycle gear for their comparable battery.

They are not gel cells. Same stuff we carry at the Advance Auto that I work at. Don't let Zone's uninformed counter people tell you otherwise. They are an AGM (absorbed glass mat) battery. Still acid, but suspended in a fiberglass mesh to help with vibration. True gel cells are bookoo bucks, and usually are special order or specialty shop items.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Really? I usually use the app for autozone on the iPhone. You can look up your own parts, & it tells you the stock at the store you pick, prices, & details. I use it for this reason, these guys behind the counter sometimes are very misleading & you find out the hard way while they're off somewhere not giving a fu*k. Unfortunately motorcycle batteries weren't in the app. But hey, as you've said it's supposed to help with vibration so maybe it still is a good idea for his situation.
Side note: the app is a great idea, I use autozone more because I can take the errors out of looking up my parts. The other places should jump on this idea.

Ah. 3600 stores and we haven't made it to the West coast yet. Crazy, I know. Just get it shipped to your house.

Mad Sunday is quite a spectacle too ... they declare the roads which constitute the circuit as one-way (the direction of the race), drop all speed limits completely, and then open them to the visiting spectators to take their own bikes round.
Some of the spectator bikes are the same production monsters as the ones which race ... but the spectators aren't :) ... Google it ... Mad Sunday
<later edit>It seems that they've started restricting the speed and road width on Mad Sundays since the time I remember ...

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Stopped at a bike shop near me a while back and got to talking to the owner (a partying dude from way back) about the 650 Yamaha I had in the 70's. Next thing, this followed me home.
Engine stuck, everything rusted , parts missing, just the way I like them! And here it is this afternoon.
Bobber time for this one.

Re: 72 Honda bobber
Now that looks like fun. Just remember, riding a motorcycle when you haven't been on one for a while is like falling off a bicycle, though a bit more painful....
