Re: Motorcycle Thread
Alright, need some cutting and bolting advice..
I've damn near got my bike reassembled, only things left now are to put the air filter box thing back in and the gas tank, put fluids in and fire it up..
Having an issue with the air filter box.. it's this big bulky piece of shit that is a serious Mother fucker to install.. I have dual carbs and (not sure if this is how all dual carb bikes are or if Honda did this cause they're assholes..), the intakes on them are 90* off (one points upwards towards the riders' crotch, the other points upwards towards the top of the forks..) so you have to put this giant box between the top frame rails as crooked as you can, then twist it into place so the rubber boots fully seat on both carb intakes..
serious headache inducer.
My roommate recommended just going aftermarket, but it seems like every aftermarket air filter I find is designed for single carb bikes whose intakes point out the right side of the bike..
What I'm thinking about now is maybe just making some bullshit out of flexible (sturdy) hose and PVC or something..
any thoughts?

thinking about those, but according to guys on two different Shadow forums responding to other people about going with aftermarket filters, if you do, you have to rejet the carbs and re tune them.. so I might just screw with the stock box until I get it on..

Other way around. Pod filters = more air = too lean. Have to open up the jets to add more fuel.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
I'd like to not have to buy a jet kit.. they seem to be in the $30-$80 range and the only things I want to buy now are radiator fluid, gas, and tires..

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Killer Wing Matteblack!
I picked up a little something to keep me on 2 through the shitty weather and give me something to do on weekends.
1980 Yamaha MX175. Running and rideable but it really needs tires. Paid a whopping $320!

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Um, the generator bolted at the lower front of the engine? On my '83 Sporty there are three bolts fastening the generator to the right side cover, two hex and an allen. The generator is driven by an idler gear running off the front exhaust cam drive gear on that side. Maybe the generator gear is somehow hooked or fouled on the idler. If all else fails you'll have to pull the cam cover. If this info helps, please ship me a can of "Comprssion be-back," for the #3 cylinder of my Ranger's little V6...sigh.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
'79 Ironhead......... 2 bolts hold it in (generator is at lower front of engine) and you are supposed to "wiggle" it out while pulling down on the back of the generator. I have wiggled it to the point of fearing the bike is going to fall on me............

yeah i don't recommend that... I didn't fully drop mine, but it tilted far enough to splash gas all over my calf and foot, and trap my foot under some part of it.. ankle was purple and black for a couple of weeks, oddly enough though, it didn't hurt..
