Re: Motorcycle Thread
'79 Ironhead......... 2 bolts hold it in (generator is at lower front of engine) and you are supposed to "wiggle" it out while pulling down on the back of the generator. I have wiggled it to the point of fearing the bike is going to fall on me............

Yup, that's the one. My generator is fine, but I've got the bike on my lift to adjust the clutch. After doing some fine tuning on the shift cam in the gearbox some years back, I still can't get neutral, stopped with the engine running, unless I plan ahead. Kinda fun bike, though.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Picked up this little thing, has 1400 miles on it, runs great, had to put a new clutch in it, as it wouldn't kick over when hot, but now all is well, unfortunately it's the start of the rainy season here so riding it is going to have to wait for a few (6 or 7) months...

Re: Motorcycle Thread
So I was cruisinfg thru the intros today and noticed this build. Any one else see this ?
Crazy Bastard material if you ask me.

This thing I am sure deserves its own thread as it is mixed in with the car build thread.

Honda CT110...GREAT little bike. Famous in Australia as "the Postie" as they are standard issue for the Aus Postal Service. So robust, dependable etc that when Honda ceased production in 1986, demand from Aus was sufficient for Honda to restart production. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CT110. You have bought a great bike..enjoy and cherish!

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Have attached a couple of pics of my beloved: frame built by Revolution Motorcycle, Northampton, UK (RIP Ian Kilner). Motor Yam FJ1200, rims Kawa ZZR1100, rear suspension and rear sets Suz Slingshot 1100. The first set of pics date back to 2006 when I completed a re-build...the last two pics are current...the bike has been in storage for 2 years whilst i was working abroad. She may not look her previous pristine self but she still pushes 140bhp, sounds awesome and is a delight to ride.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Here is my 61 pan bobber during a rebuild. I went with a 21 inch front wheel, avon tire, no brakes and no fender on the front. It has a 46 knuckle springer on it. Its almost done now getting ready to paint the tins soon as the shop clears some.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Had an interesting adventure this evening. Jill has been wanting her own bike since she got her endorsement last fall. We have been perusing craigslist and stuff. Looked at a bunch of different bikes. Made a trip up to Pontiac to check out an '83 Honda Nighthawk 650. Was way too rough for the money they were asking. Checked craigslist while we were out and about. Called on a 84 Nighthawk 650 that had just been posted. Looked good and sounded good when we talked to the guy. Made the trip across town. Got there about 8:30 at night. Checked it out and decided it was the bike for Jill. Don't think the guy was really prepared for us to ride it home tonight.
Of course it was raining and blowing, but at least it was warm. Made the ride home...about 30 miles in the rain and dark. Bike is awesome. Jill is going to love riding it.
Here are a few crappy pictures that we took once we had it in the garage and dried off. Will take some more this weekend out in the open.
1984 Honda Nighthawk 650. 14k miles. Custom black with blue pearl/metallic over it paint. Runs and rides great.
Of course it needs some stripes.

I had the same bike. I loved it. sold it for a Yamaha Fazer and regretted it. I ended up selling that for a Nighthawk S. The 650 was a great bike back in the day. Still is.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
I have a '85 Nighthawk-S that was given to me. I'm waiting for it to drop out of DMV, it just hit the 10 year mark, so I don't have to pay the $539 in back fees......... Then I'm gonna get all Cafe on it

Re: Motorcycle Thread
My bike has been demoted to "hunk of shit on the side of the garage" for the time being..
as some of you know, it's been a nightmare from the get go. to make a long story short, it had a cracked engine case when I got it, I bought a case off of ebay and tore it down and rebuilt it in the new case, think I put a cam in 180 off, so recently tore it apart again, and now i think I might have an electrical issue. No idea exactly what the problem has been with each rebuild, just speculation.
It owes DMV almost $700 and I'm fed up with it for now. Gonna try to haggle DMV using a portion of the CVC which states that they can waive fees if it is reasonable that the new owner was unaware of the existence of such fees once I have at least $200 to offer the DMV gods..
but for now, I'm just so damn fed up with this thing and the headache it has been since day 1. So it's going to sit on the side of the garage (inside) while i take the bug engine apart again to fix some mistakes I made there..
Maybe after I get the bug running reliably again I'll go back to the bike for another try, but right now I frackin hate that piece of shit..
