considering that it's only a sporty, still swingarm, probably fairly high miles. fancy tank, paint, and handlebars. i'd say no on it, as you can buy a damn near new sporty for that much. maybe 5000-5500, but that's my opinion.

i've been thinking about buying a decent used sporty for awhile now. plenty of companies already make a rigid frame for them, parts are plentiful, and cheap...

who knows, i'll ride the shit out of the one i just bought for awhile and see how it goes... $100 says all the rubs in my town will think i'm on a damn harley anyway just cause they don't know the damn difference between their OCC shit and a $5 knockoff...

looks like a custom frame and tank. so placement would be wherever the builder decided to mount them.

That appears to be one of the Redneck Engineering Mutant Buell frames. A cool line of frames IMO.

I kinda like that it's not hard tailed and it comes with the stock shocks as well. A hard tail looks cool but I'm not sure how long my back would take it. first make it a hardtail bobber.
maybe later if i have more money to spend i'll put on spoked wheels and a apehanger, who knows.
(got a thing that needs repairs and to be dropped to the ground, volksrod project- buying parts for it , and now the xs650).
and i need to build a garage/workspace for the cars projects, but that will be this summer.
so for now i bought the xs, after seeing the one that's sold here, and doing a little search on the net.
got some room left in the shed where i can work on it.

well, i finally picked up my bike. tinkered a little with it yesterday. got the bars narrowed up a bit and threw on some fugly stripes (supposed to be gold and red, turns out one shot gold is more like puke orangy-yellow) guess i should start a project page for it?

Hey Hey, Cafe bikes! I always wanted one of the XLCR Sportsters, but they were too expen$ive and could have used a few improvements. I built my own version using an inexpensive `83 XLX
(2k in 1986). The entire front end is from a KZ-1000 cop bike. Rear wheel also. Brakes are all Kawi. Fairing is BMW R-90S, w/8" Yamaha headlight...removable saddle with tool tray is from BSA A65L. Aircleaner is modified HD (the air scoop is actually made us from the sheetmetal from and old split window roof !) Rearsets are hand built. Exhaust is a copy of the XLCR welded up from a bunch of parts store bends, with Supertrapps. At 30,000 miles the engine was worn out. It's all S&S inside and balanced within an inch of its life. A friend did the machine work and I did the assembly. There's a bunch of other mods and I still run the bike around. I've had it for nearly 22 years and over sixty thousand miles. Currently, in my 'spare time,' I'm building a new fuel tank

I've got a question that relates to M/Cs... I'm all about safety i.e: Leather jacket, gloves, helmet... but whats a best way to have protection during the summer? Summer here gets to 110*+ and there's no way in hell I'm riding around in full leather. Any suggestions?

I'd love to send a dadgum picture but I'm a computer dumbass and can't get it to scan to my `reply,' the forum etc....Though I did get it to pop up in my own e-mail (arrgh). I e-mailed Steve for help.
I've been using a vented jacket with a zip out liner as an alternative to my old leather jacket for the last three summers. It hit's in the low hundreds at times here and one day I'd been sweating in traffic (liner out, vents open) and damn near froze when I hit the freeway.

most good jackets have a removeable liner. that will cool you donw some. there are also some makers that use perforated leather in the front panels. not the most important panels for crash protection so it doesn't put you at any higher risk but it lets some air flow through. i now vanson has a few perforated jackets available. don't get lazy and ride without protection though.

In the Texas Summers, I wear Long Sleeve Henlys. I am more worried about sun Burn than I am with Gravel Rash.

I dress for the Weather. Leathers are for the Cold.

Two things are mandatory, Jeans and Shoes (Boots).
