Re: Motorcycle Thread
Thanks! I got 2 demerits, 1 for not shoulder checking a right turn and 1 during a U-turn. I signaled right off the road and forgot to signal left as I did the U-turn. Other than that the tester said it was one of the best test rides she'd seen in a while.

Hell yeah, I ride my 50cc Aprilia like I stole it 90% of the time. Runs out of stem at about 75 mph but it hauls the fuckin mail around town, screaming like a banshee the whole time and it still gets over 100 mpg.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Got more work done on the Cafe bike yesterday. Tore apart the front end and got my new fork boots and HL ears on.
Also got my set of vintage Tommaselli clip ons today so I can ditch those stupid clubmans.

I'll strip 'em down tonight and get those suckers powder-coated.

Isn't powdercoating going to be too thick? Gotta make sure the throttle tube is still going to move freely on the bar after the refinishing is done.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
yah, either have them tape the inside of the clamping area or plan on grinding all that off before they'll fit.
what did you end up doing with the mirrors that were on the bike?

I got some new vintage styled grips and had to cut those fuckers off with an angle grinder. I tried loosening the set screw but with no luck, out came the cutter.
I was planning on powdercoating the clip ons since chroming was pretty much unanimously voted as a too expensive route and powdercoating was the cheaper - yet durable method to go with. I really would hate to just paint them black; too bland.

I just noticed this post.
What's the plan for the bike? How does it run, or does it? Good luck with the new project.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
thanks man. Im plannin on bobbing it. Gunna hafta be creative cuz I've never seen any of these bikes that werent stockers or cafe mods. No real chops or bobbers, at least not that looked good IMO. I've got it stripped down to the frame and drive train right now, rebuilding part of the frame so that the seat will be lower. Im going to rebuild the tank, build a new seat and rear fender, rebuild the exhaust, convert the front end to single disk, new headlight and bars. Oh and Im hoping its gunna work...gunna make it part VW. Building a custom intake and gunna run my 30/31 pict carb. haha
eventually new wheels and paint.
I know, alotta plans...but i've had some time to think it out

Re: Motorcycle Thread
I like them old toaster looking tanks. I have a 60s tank I'm using on my 250 cafe project.

IMO I'd go with the ape hangers if you want a cool bobber style but the factory wheels and stock seat kinda throws off the "look". My vote for a set of drag bars would look good.
edit: It's probably best to choose the handlebars based on your comfort level. If you want to go riding for a couple hours, make sure your arms and posture how you want it. If it's just a bar hopper, than it really doesn't matter riding position or comfort really.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Yea I agree about the wheels and ride comfort. I like the ape look but I dunno if ill go that route since Ill be using it to commute. Ill prolly have a few different sets of bars that I can change out for different rides. Oh, and I hate the wheels but i have em and they dont cost nothin. Id like some wire spokes but not in the budget for now. Im thinkin about sandin off the finish and polishing them up to a high sheen so they aren't quite as lame
