Very cool. My wife and I made a few cairns in our travels, marking trails or adding to fallen ones. I teach my students about similar things as a part of culture and language while also being a form of art. I love that kind of stuff.

Nice link. I'll show my students that. Reminds me a little bit of Henry Moore and his abstract reclining figures.
Jeff
P.S. I'll post pics of the seats soon. Had to test fit the pass. seat today to clear the electrical and fuel lines.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Saturday afternoon I rode about an hour of super slab out to a friend's place out in the valley for dinner and a hockey game. He lives up on the side of a mountain overlooking the valley.
When it came time to leave I followed another friend in his truck down the hill because I had only been there once before and wasn't sure of where I was going. He took a wrong turn and we ended up turning around and heading back up the hill. Just as we got back to where we made the wrong turn a full size deer ran out behing the truck and in front of me. We were only going about 25-30mph and the deer stopped and looked at me just before the center of the road. I had already got on the brakes and it looked like the deer was going to turn back when it bolted right in front of me. I tagged it in the hind quarters and went down on my right side and slid under it's back end. It must have been pretty close to right on top of me because I could smell it! As I skidded to a stop the deer stumbled up dragging it's hind legs and bounced off the curb into a full run down the hill. I got up and did the quick physical check and everything seemed ok other than a pain in my hip. A car stopped and turned out to be an off duty cop and he helped me get the bike up and off the road. It held up pretty good with only a cracked and scratched up fairing, a broken front brake lever and the muffler separated from the end cap. I got it going and rode it up the hill back to my friend's house and it seemed to be ok but I left it there overnight and got a ride home because I didn't want to get back on the slab for an hour without going over the bike first. Went back with a trailer and picked it up today.
It's all fixable and I'll be getting started on it after work tomorrow. It sounded like there was plastic bouncing around in the airbox so that will be coming apart for sure and I'll have to straighten a couple of the fairing brackets.
As for me, I've got a pretty good bruise on my hip and it hurts to lift my right arm anywhere near horizontal so I'll be booking a physio appointment tomorrow.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
If you think you hate it when a crazy animal leaps out in front of you, try a crazy lady in a Volvo. And then she sneers, "Motorcycles shouldn't be allowed on the road, they're too dangerous." This is why they banned assault rifles in California.
Glad you're okay, a few hunderd pounds of venison is nothing to take on with a plastic fairing.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Well, got good news and bad news related to motorcycles. I'll start off with the good.
Picked up a 1958 or 1959 Indian/Royal Enfield "chopper" project for $600. Engine turns and has compression. Single Amal carb and Bullet forks. Lucas mag that needs a rebuild. It's got Z handle bars and 15"over fork tubes (gotta go!) on a stock frame.
Since I work for Mitch, he's offering to help build a custom frame of my choice. Since i'm into Cafe bikes and not choppers, the motor will be sitting in a custom made Norton Featherbed, and will re-badge the Indian tag on the motor to a Royal Enfield (which it IS a R/E motor anyway).
Both Mitch and I are really stoked about the new project, and for Mitch, something other than a chopper. I'll post pics when I find my goddamn camera.
For the bad news....
2 nights ago, I went riding with a local crotch-rocket m/c out to Palm Springs and had a blast. Decided to call it a night and take the 10 freeway home. One guy decided to pull a couple wheelies down the on-ramp and lost control of his bike and wrecked.... with my girlfriend on the back. Long story short, she's fine with some road rash, but just pretty pissed about the EMTs cutting up her favorite pair of jeans.
The d-bag rider decided to pick his bike up without asking how she was and high tailed it out of the scene. Apparently he had some warrants out that NOBODY knew about. He got nabbed and got extra charges including reckless endangerment, and leaving the scene of an accident. He's behind bars now.
So, any of you riders don't do anything stupid ESPECIALLY with someone else on the back. (Counts double for somebody else's girl)
That's all.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Wow, glad she made it relatively ok. If I was in your shoes I'd be waiting outside the jailhouse with a pipewrench when that fucktard gets released. Doing stupid shit on bike when it's just you on the bike is one thing (not that I condone it at all) but doing stupid shit with a passenger on board is just plain irresponsible.
