Re: Motorcycle Thread
Kicking myself for not bringing my tank out for John to stripe. I was scratching my head on what to bring him.... Shot up my W lid with a coat of flat black...next time I need to step down from 40 grit to 180 or so first oh well no big loss on 5 minutes of time. Ended up bringing out my snowflakes that I'm tossing on the split for now. Killer lines on there! Honored to have some part of Mike Meet and John on my car. Didn't remember till after I got back that I have the tank for my '69 Honda all painted up flat black and ready to go.... Oh well, I'll get the girl to do it now! Some of you (Tim,Scott,John etc) have seen her work. Hopefully the opportunity will inspire her. Gonna make sure she brings her brushes to the next meet!

Re: Motorcycle Thread
The boss man has been bitching at me because I don't post much lately. Herr Pie has been off the road since december and there have been a whole bunch of pretty major changes (most for the better) in my life over those 6-7 months. So in an attempt to be more active here, here are some photos from a day trip I took in May up to the Mt. Baker ski area In WA.
Found this Expedition for sale on the way
My travel mates Cheri (Boulevard 800) and Mike (ZX11)
into the foothills:
Up to the snow line:
Part of the highway down below:
And two hours later at the top:
More ride reports to come.

Is it just me or the lighting or are these wheels laced uniquely?? I like 'em and haven't noticed any XS rims looking the same.

They're Heritage Special wheels. 64 and 48 spoke, I think. They only came on the HS models for a couple of years.

Nice Walt! Spot on there for your lady too!
I passed my skills test today on my Hardknock, got 100%. The bikes like a celebrity, people wanting to take pics of it, talk about it. But now I can finally ride it all summer long on the streets legal! No more ridin' dirty!

So Walt, how long before the Harley engine comes out and something more fittingly exotic goes in?

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Damn that thing looks comfy Walt! After doing a few longer day trips on my ZX7 I think something along those lines might need to be in my future.
Way to go Pete! It's a good feeling not having to look over your shoulder for the county mounties every time you go out for a ride. I've been riding since '94 and only got my full license last year.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
i picked this up about a week ago for free,
what a bike, has lots of rust, thats about it
it is a 1971 Honda CL350 only has about 7000 miles on it, unless it has been turned over, i got it for the front part of the frame that i plan on using for when i start building my Trike, which wont happen until i finish the BitchN Bug
im gonna build a Swedish type Trike, with the VW motor up front instead of hanging out the back, this front end will be temporary until i can build me a leading link front fork which will be extended and raked much more that this Honda fork
this is what i want my Trike to look like when im finished with it, well something similar to this anyways, or the 2nd pic
i will start a new build thread when i get a start on it

Re: Motorcycle Thread
First time I've seen a front engine trike. For me they sure have a way higher impression ration than the , um, conventional (?) trike.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
A general rule of thumb, whem building a trike.Always use a 500cc or larger frontend for strength. I don't know if the concerns lie in the thickness of the steel the neck is made of, or the diameter of the stem material. You need something rugged. Front engine trikes carry more of their weight on the front wheel. If you play around with wheelies and such, bending or breaking is easy to do.The Honda 600NX has a beefy front end! Large 40mm+ fork tubes.Built for offroad abuse. If it were me building one, I go the route "Trikertroy" has. A home built forks with a rocker at the bottom.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
ya think, gas alone was probably way to much, but it was only about 5 miles from my house
and like i said i plan to build a leading link front end of my trike which is what Trikertroy suggested to me
Quote:

which is a leading link front fork
the main reason i picked this up and plan to use it is for mock up only, i may drive with it for a short time, also so i have a front tire and wheel as well, plus a few other odds and ends i can use from it, then i plan on selling what i can, the motor does turn over, so maybe someone needs parts for one of these bikes
i have been studying and reading up on Trikes for almost 10 years now, and the leading link front fork is the strongest, they have been used for years, i believe i even read somewhere that the DOT says they are the strongest available
the front neck on this bike is the same size as a friend of mine that has a Honda 750 so im hoping it will hold up for a few months until i can get the leading link built, this bike is also a street/trail bike from what i have read about it
Michael, thanks for the Badass Trike site, they do have good prices, but i doubt if i will buy anything unless i can not build it myself i have not seen that one yet and i have looked a bunches of different motorcycle/Trike sites
i have plans to build a spinger front fork and a girder front fork, i just cant find a set of plans on the internet for the leading link fork, but i think i could build one from looking at all the pictures i have saved over the past few years
oh yeah, i dont buy much expect material, i build almost everything i can when it comes to that sort of thing
i will probably start on this this project the 1st of next year, ill keep ya's up to date once i start

Where's the lever to recline the back and raise the footrest??? I'd check the cushions for loose change, pretzels and a lost remote.
Very comfy bikes, but my balls still rattle for an hour after I get off one!

I have seen many of the early glass bodied
trikes (rear engine) that used forks from
Honda S90's. They were ok cus wheel
was airborn most of time. Lol.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
i doubt if i will buy anything unless i can not build it myself I build trike frames... The BadAss guys are my friends and they build a very nice frame.. and like my Bettertrikes buying his (or mine) frame is really time and money and quility and non-flustration way ahead... Im a "I can do THAT!" kinda guy too...and I usually can.. but the time and effort and running around etc, often makes paying a fair price for a quility product is worth it in the long run...and nice well-known frames enhance the owning experiance in many ways and increase the final resale value... Im building my own designed Monster Leading Link front ends for my Bettertrikes... but Im gonna offer the extras to my buddies (YOU GUYS!) at a bargain price.. These are way quility improved over my hand built leading links... I posted a bunch of info on the BTW fourm... Im pretty proud on how these are comming out.. Iv added an old retired Master Machinest to my team and that has lead to lazer cut parts, and other improved techiques.. Im useing common buggy coil over shocks for the prototype to see how well that will work out.. Maybe too stiff for a VW trike and maybe too soft for my V8 trike.. we will see... I usually use Honda CB350 rear shocks
