Re: Motorcycle Thread
All he needs now is tires and he can roll it. Few odds n ends left too. Wants to leather wrap the handle bars to hide the wires, needs foot rests, has decided to get cruiser bars up front, and still has to make a lisc plate bracket. Stupid new law they have to be upright and lit now. No more just wrapping them over the shock.
I like it too, but he's been warned, don't come home telling me about all the traffic mishaps or I'll get upset with it like before.
Soon as he buffs it, I get to play painter on it. He thinks a dark red stripe dividing the white and green will look good. So I will play around with that.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
I have a helmet question~ I picked up a scuffed and scratched one. Black. What can I do to polish it? I want to practice striping on it. So I don't want a wax, I will be wiping them off after getting a picture. So I need to smooth these scratches out. Some look like concrete scratches, rough. Largest one is maybe 1x1". Hubby thought maybe wet sanding it? and polishing? but I want ya'lls suggestions~

Re: Motorcycle Thread
If the scratches are too deep to polish out the helmet shouldn't be used for anything other than art anyway so just sand fill and repaint. Any damage on a helmet indicates it's been dropped and shouldn't be used.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
It was junk picked along with those bates boxes I picked from the neighbor last year. All I want to do is scroll on it, take a pic, then wipe it off. I need to practice on more rounded objects.
It doesn't appear to have been in a wreck or even a hard hit. Just surface scratches but the padding inside is deteriorating , it comes out as dust thru the fabric inside, so ir's a junker. I just don't want to mess around on hubby's half size helmet and ruin it with alot of wiping with solvents.

I second that. Great practice surface though. Would make a great bike show/ rally trophy though!

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Carlene, fill the scratches with some spot putty, sand it, prime it and paint it. Then go from there.

Flash makes them look worse than they really are. Come to think of it, the white scuffs may have been from the neighbor tossing it in his truck, it was white~
But you can see how many there are.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
If it's just for practice I would just scuff it with some fine sandpaper and spraybomb it. I have a few junk half and 3/4 helmets that I plan on doing that with one day.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Guess I'll do that for now, then try look for a cheap new one. Painting on slick surfaces is alot different than spray bomb though. But I need to start somewhere. Bottles are just too small and aggravating right now~

Re: Motorcycle Thread
Maybe try a little buffing compound to buff the white off. As you said it might just be white paint off the neighbors truck.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
If you are going to just be wiping the the paint off anyway, why not start by buffing it then try to work some of the scratches into your work . Later you can seal and repaint it for more practice.

Re: Motorcycle Thread
I agree try buffing or grab a spray can of high build primer, and practice, body work on it then stripe it. As a side not an old bowling ball would make a good cheap solid base for practice.

1. Thanks.
2. I will gladly shoot all of those people too.
We'll see how it steers once the clip ons get here. Tomorrow is make a headlight bracket and redo the exhaust (for added ground clearance) day.
