Oh, you meant questions about the setup! Gotcha!!!

I am assuming that the extra tie rod leaning up against the tire will be used to triangulate the upper link the same as the lower link is set up.

Are the two links parallel and of equal length? In other words, will there be an increase in camber as it moves through the range of motion?

What car did those links come off of?

How wide is that setup, looks wide in the pics?

Width from outer sidewall to outer sidewall: 80.7326" It is wide but that is so I can get a full turn out of the steering without hitting the body or hairpins. The rear is wider.
The links are the same length BUT the top one is in further (better scrub radius) and the inner link on the top is lower so it does create a mild camber change on the upwards travel. It is sitting at ride height in the picture. It moves about 1.5* over 3" of upward travel.
The upper long struts will be running to the arched spring via bell crank.
The upper arms will be connected to hairpins that run halfway back along the side of the car. There will be some deflection but it will be minimal. If I need to gusset around the heims, it should be easy.
The black arms are stock super beetle, as are the spindles, steering tie rods and ball joints. The rods are from Speedway and the rod ends and jam nuts are from QS Components. There are a few spacers and such from McMaster-Carr too.
Jeff
P.S. It depends on what the conductors ate, allergies, stomach acids and their rate of metabolism.

more of an update than anything but brought the wife home tuesday night after much debate with the damn hospital over their not wanting to release her untill she lost the headache and nausea, which was being caused by the antibiotics to controll the infection they still have no idea how she got. got them to stop the IV crap and go to the pil form that they prescribed which lessened the nausea and headache. problem was they said there were only a couple options for that type of infection one she was appearently alergic to ( nasty swelling of veins in her arm etc..) and the one making her sick to her stomach so... and the damn surgon still claims it was the wifes fault for not taking the pain meds that were giving her a major headache, and doubts the pain she was in was as bad as described??!! even though 5 other doctors say otherwise! and they wonder why I cant stand most doctors or hospitals and especially dont care for most surgons! anyway shes home now, so far so good, keeping solid foods down and we even went out shopping for school clothes for the youngest, she sat on the benches alot while we shopped but she really just wanted out!! they gave her Percaset whatever generic for oxycodine for the pain and warned me what a strong drug it is etc.. yet it has little effect on her just takes the edge off and allows her to sleep and function.. important thing is her white cell count was 12K friday night when we went in 22K sat morning dropped to 18K monday and 8K tuesday by noon, only real reason they let us go.. so the stuffs working, and only 5 more days of pills so hopefull it wont come back.. but shes fine now and happy to be home! Thanks for the mojo guys!

I quit smoking, again. Previous time was 4 yrs ago, lasted 6mos. Using a little bit of nicorette gum to help this time.
Yesterday wasn't pretty.

You've been warned.

Congratulations Carlene

I quit smoking cigs 23 years ago this October, that was after several attempts during the 9 years I did smoke

Here is a little tip that helped me, a few months later my parents quit by spending a $1000.00 each to get hypnotized, it worked, & it was the same damn thing I did myself

OK, here is my tip

Every time you get the urge, or feel you need/want a smoke, start saying to yourself (quietly or out loud) "I don't smoke" or "I'm a non smoker" keep repeating until that urge goes away

The urge, or need for a cigarette only last as long as it takes to smoke one, bout 5 minutes

It can be tough to do, but just keep telling yourself "I don't smoke, I don't smoke" keep repeating & eventually you will loose that urge to light up

The first week is the toughest part, but if you can go a week, you will find yourself saying "I don't smoke" a little less as time goes by

After my parents went thru the hypnosis I learned that, the 3rd day, the 3rd week, & the 3rd month are the toughest times (why? I have no idea)

If you can go 3 months without giving in, you can go the rest of your life without lighting up

If ya need any help, gimme you digits & I'll call you every 10 to 15 minutes & tell ya that
"You Don't Smoke ANYMORE"

Again, good Luck

Ron

I went overseas, smoking a pack a week. When I left to come home, in 1969, I was smoking 2 packs a day. I guess it was the old addage, "nervous from the service". After seeing that cigarettes, back then, were I think .49 cents a pack, I quit cold turkey as I wasn't foing to waste that much money to go up in smoke. Haven't had one since.

I hope to stick to it this time.
But Scott, what bear are you talking about?

Another small reason I'm throwing them out, I think I've been way too 'flammable' lately?

have fun at the shindig

I quite cold turkey after I accidentally burnt my son's arm with a cigarette, I was smoking close to 4 packs a day, & they were $1.75 a pack, now if I can my wife to give up smoking, I'd have money to buy new stuff for my VW addiction

I made the cross linkage on the front end. Tomorrow I'll get the steering box and tracking arm rigged up. As soon as I get somewhere and it works, I'll post a few pics. After that, I need to get the 2x6 framework and get the front spring/ bellcrank mechanism hooked up.

Got the front center linkage fabbed up. I used an old wagon steering link from the family farm and made it into the steering link. I thought my mother in law would appreciate it. I kept some of the original paint on it just to be cool. I need to make mounts for the box and tracking arm. From there, its moving on to the transverse spring mount!

Dang, just did some math and I need to move the box and arm out 4" or so each direction. Eh, it's only tacked for that exact reason and it will give me better leverage and bracing. Figure it's just a building experience. Having fun learning stuff!

ya know, Drew told me he wanted to connect a hot tub to the water heater so we could use gas instead of electric to heat it.. I was honestly a tiny bit worried I'd come home and find lines going either right over the lawn, or maybe being suspended from something or some other creative method of getting everything over there..

Instead I come home to find that they dug a trench and installed everything pretty damn nice looking!

can't wait to soak in it for a bit..
