Here it is with the suround sitting on the dash piece that's waiting to be finished...

I was thinking about doing that in one of my Manxes. I have a Spatz too!

I've been throwing around the idea of actually making the suround out of Aluminum or Diamond plate Alum. But, who knows at this point. Everything is at the "planning stage".

Yeah, Like I EVER have a Real plan.

I like it man!! I don;t like the shiny diamond plate in a 'vert . I hate when the sun is just right and reflects off of it into your eye!

Yeah, after thinking about the sun reflection off it, I'm not going to do it like that...

I think they will look better centered. I had 914 guages in one of my 69 bugs.

Do you mean centered over the steering wheel, or centered in the dash like they are in the Buggy?

EDIT: Duh, I see what you mean... It took me a while to realize you ment centered over the steering like you have there...

Anybody here with buggies use a short shifter with a "quick shift kit"? Just wondering how they are in buggies... Been thinking of just cutting a stock shifter, re-threading, making my own shift knob, & using the quick shift. Any ill effects of doing this? Not sure if I should bend it or not...

I've gotta pick up some "J" tubes, a couple gauges (VDO to match my 914 gauges, AMP, oil pressure/temp) & buggy bumpers at litchfield if anyone's going & has a set for cheap.

Just a little up-date...

I painted the Dropped Spindles I got from dave. They look nice! I found out the extra beam I had has decent enough Ball joints (at least 2 looked good) & tie rods (just need boots), so, I might not have to buy them right away. TC came over with Biff (revbug) & tore apart the beam while I was painting the spindles for the Buggy & beam for Bunny's bug. Next move is to get the beam for the buggy from TC & freshen that one up with parts from another beam. I didn't take any pics of the spindles or beam, but, you all know what they look like.

I ran a shifter set up like that for years and never had a problem.Today some of the quick shift kits are made of plastic.Make sure you get a metal one.

Last night I went by an old friends house that used to "do buggies" & he had a couple bodies & 1 windshield frame... So, I'm thinking about buying the w/s frame off of him (as long as it's got DOT glass), but, he wanted me to buy the buggy bodies as well.. Anyone want a Buggy body? No chassis... I posted pics of the bodies here a while ago. I'll see if I still have the pics. He's askin' $150.00 for the bodies, but, I need the w/s frame. I'll sell the body for $100.00 if anyone would want one, just so I can have the w/s frame.
Only problem with the w/s frame is it's got square corners & it's a steel frame. I wanted the aluminum rounded corner frame... OH well! Guess I gotta get what I can get, seeing I was screwed out of a sweet one... While I was there he gave me an aluminum pulley. All of the timing marks are worn off, so, I'll have to match it up to one of TC's & mark mine, I hope that will get me close enough.

Pete, funny thing is, he told me to run it anyway! Then he said if I won't run it, he'll take it & run it on another project... I told him I tossed it in the scrap bin, but, I'll pull it out for him... So I DID! You'll see it thrusday. Not worth running it IMO.

I got to spend about a half hour at Carlisle just as the show opened with Bruce talking to him about the Kickout SS. I got all sort of grief for posting the first pics of it pics on the samba and not the Manx club site. People were seriously pissed at me, sent me all sorts of pissy whiney emails. Apparently I scooped the buggy world!

It's a nice new old look buggy. I like the front hood opening. I was thinking about doing mine like that. I had to take off the windshield, then drill out some rivets and a few bolts just to get at the brake stuff.

Insead of starting another buggy thread. I'm going to do a Hal-jack on this one and ask a question, shorty may run into this also.
I sat in the buggy for the first time and my face is level with the steering wheel. to see the road I have to look thru the wheel. If I were to drop the thing any lower it would be hard to get in. any sugestions by buggy owners?

A tilt column, a shortet column, different diameter steering wheel, seats that aren't so laid back, raise the seats, put extra padding or a cushion in the seats...pick one.
