Default Re: Lowered Street Buggy...

There has been some progress. I removed the seat Stanchions, & seat adjuster bracket. Fixed up some "punky" areas on the chassis that were hidden under the stanchion on the drivers side (seeing I didn't replace that pan). Plus, I welded up the areas that I went too deep with the grinder. The pics are nothing special, & I didn't take any of the finished product yet... It's all back in paint now though.

I enlarged the holes in the roller pedal & drilled the other one to match. I think they look better with the bigger holes!(They are sitting in front of my monitor at work...)

I placed the body to the chassis for the first time. It doesn't sit 100% but, it's probably because the body was sitting off a chassis for a while & now it's a bit tweaked. It should sit fine once it's all bolted down though. I got my shifter (Bugpack short shifter) from AJ (Thanks again!) & now I can mock-up the seating. Tc's coming by Saturday to give me a hand with all that. Ike59 donated a Progressive intake, & a Steering column for the Buggy (Thanks again for that!). I got all the new seals & shit to put the rear suspension back together, so, it should be a roller by the end of the month. It could possibly be sooner if I can get enough time out in the garage. I should be able to get out there Thanksgiving weekend & finish off the rear suspension. It really sucks not getting as much garage time as I would like to have. It's coming together very slowly, but, it's coming together nonetheless.

I still have to break my tires I'm not using off the Wagon wheels to blast & paint em up. Then I have to find some 15" trim rings for them. Tc's got a set of tires for the rear for me, but, I still have to find some front 15" tires.

I'll have to get some pics of everything this weekend. Maybe even a candid of TC doing something funny...

Well, as some of you might already know, TC & I didn't get as much done as we set out to do, but, we did get some shit done! I blame it on me... I though I had the coupler for the bottom of the steering shaft that attaches to the rag joint... But, I must have let it go with the Bug Body. So, we figured out what shaft, directional switch & wheel I'm using. Mocked up the seat & shifter. My hand fell on it perfectly! That means I won't have to move the shifter back at all! We also came up with a 2 piece adjustable steering column. Figured out where the gauges will fit in the dash & I found out where I'm going to cut my dash for some gauges. All in all it was a pretty productive day, even though I screwed us by not having all the parts that I thought I had.

Sorry no pics... Next time!

Hey Shorty, If yer going to use wipers make sure the motor won't hit the gauges. If yer dash is not flat that wont be a problem.

Thanks for that tip Mike. I'm not sure if I'm going to have that problem or not yet... I haven't gotten that far yet...

All I know is I have a '75 Bug wiper set-up & I'm hoping it'll work.

My dash seems to be set back further than normal dashes, plus I'm setting them 1/2 way in/out of the dash. Kind of molded in, if that makes sence to you.

Here's a couple of pics of the dash... I haven't done anything to it except draw on it... I was going to cut it straight across the middle, (pretty much where the line goes across the dash) but, I may be able to leave more of it, & then try to make it "roll" under. You can see where the steering shaft will come through the dash indicated by the many lines all in one area...

This one shows the side of it. I found out the angle of the face is 30 Degrees & I'm thinking of mounting the windshield at the opposite 30 degree angle... What do you guys think?

There's an extra line that doesn't belong in there too, the one that matters is the one with the arrow pointing to it.

& Here's pic I promised TC I'd post of the Carb I cut off a seized motor for another member here. He got it today & I think he thought it was funny how I cut the carb off & gave it to him with everything attached...

not upset that you could use em...but when some one takes stuff he thinks he needs then give it away,is a little nerving cuz the fact that my good freind gave me the parts for use and if not,I was to sell them...I told him freinds will get the parts when needed,if some one knows a guy could use some stuff doesn't mean he can come to my shop or home take what he needs then give it to anyone he pleases.

it's pretty basic dude,I would think you would understand.

Nifty, dude. Nice work, especially if you got paid for your time! That's gonna leave a mark when you club somebody with it. I'm gonna stay on your good side.

Your Roller Pedal is sitting in your box-o-goodies here at my house... All polished up, & looking sweet!
Your handle on the other hand, is probably just a pipe dream of yours... You knew I was making one for myself, & you told me not to bother, you were buying a non-existent one... I almost fell for it & bought one as well. Then I looked for one, & found out you were pulling my leg... Boy did I look funny asking for one like THAT!

E- Have you ever messed with those weld in Rear torsion Adjusters? I was looking at them and thinking about using one on my buggy to give me some adjustment in the rear.

I keep going back and forth on the stance for my long buggy for the same reason. Realistically it will be mostly street use, but the original reason I bought it was to take it to the beach with us and use it on the beach in Del and Assateague to do a little fishing once and a while. I figured If I set the adjusters at neutral with stock spindles, I can go up or down and swap out the wheels. I have a friend that has a pretty nice el Lobo in town that rides pretty high and it's just out of place on the streets.

Ahh, "I don't need no stinking gauges"

We'll see what I can do once a machine opens & I can covertly get my grubbies on it!

Although, if you want, I can give you this one, & possibly make one for myself... I don't need mine yet, & this way you can at least have one (& not steal my gauges) & I can make one for myself when the time comes!

No need, but if you do get some time on the machine later on, I sure would like one. It looks terrific, and is REALLY going to work well with the interior theme that you've worked out. SWEET JOB ! ! ! !
