Thanks Nick. The Oldbug's "Snoopy" does have some resemblence.
I was thinking of making a fenderless with some special features I dont want to reveal yet.
The cab will probably start lookin pretty much as the Snoopy.
Lancelot Link's Wizard with the stretched front looks pretty good too.

I think I might have to shorten the fronthood an other 4-6 inches to make it look right...
Especially if I want to build it to suit the regulations in the local Soapbox rally...
This is how the parts would look like if I place the within the total lenght of the car according to race regulations...

Now thats SWEEEEET! Really cool idea you have there, too bad I don't have a spare bug body lying around, this would be fun to build for my son. i dont think with the revised body you will need the whole body. might be easier to do it from scratch. also with the weight regulations you might want to build the body out of foam and fiberglass and then put weights on the bottom

Who wants to work in Fiberglass?! Its got to be all steel!!!
The weight will not be a big problem. The stock fullsize body is about the same weight as the weightlimit on the local soapbox derby.
This is an other crappy rendering with the body lenght brobably about one and a half feet longer than the previous. The fronthood is also shortened some more as the reardecklid too.
Too bad, but I'm not able to work on it for about 2 weeks because we on a roadtrip to Sweden next Sunday and will stay there until the following weekend when we go to the Bugrun!!
(Edit: Yes, When I rendered the body I used scaled parts from a chopped bug.)

I shortened the fronthood an other 6 inches two days ago. Now it starts to look more in proportion I think..
The nosetip just needs to be adjusted and more curved. I will cut up some slices on each side to bend it in some.
Here you see the size of it compared to the driver.

Every year,I think the season is easter to halloween. The halloween race is usually the most fun.
Did you check telstars slide show?Theres a pic of of my second car(sold it and Tom had it altered)
I've built another one since, but pushing that shit up THAT hill is a PIA!
Hell yeah build a car!Its open season,I like solid wheels but you can tell from the photos that pneumatics are real popular.Sometimes the real agro types do a "dirt start"100 yards+up the hill, across an open flatter section
zig zag down a berm and then do the regular course.THAT is a spectacle!

I think that it will be made so it can be used both as a soapbox racer and as a Gokart....

What kind of Green should I paint it when it is finished? My kids favorite colour is Green so I decided to paint it green...
Flakes?
Metallic?
Flat green?
What shades?
Suggestions? Any green as long as it will suit a cool Volksrod ...

Just please don't paint it like this..... I may never get to this stage, but if I do, I don't want to be accused of coppieing a soap box durby car.

Ok, Ray.
But do you think the green with flames are played out? Maybe it acctually should be pinstriped?
My kid likes the flames though. When he sees the Hotwheels toys with flames he says: Ooooh, fire!! (In Swedish off course...
