I saw the ragster in person at the NAIS yesterday.. and honestly.. it wasn't half bad.. the wheel and tire combo was right on.. I loved the low profile red bands

and the new MK5 jetta isn't bad.. infact it looks pretty damn good.. pictures do not do it for that car.

I wore my volksrods GNF shirt and I got alot of comments.. had a nice long talk with a guy that was supposed to be hyping the new products about MK2 jettas and why they are sweet.

back on the topic of the ragster.. it was pretty stock.. the interior was interesting (mk4 gli recaro's with wierd fabric.) seats and nothing too special.. at least it wasn't completely OTT

The Ragster - dull huh?
Or so I'm getting that feeling from a few of the comments on here. But here's a piece of news you may find more interesting.
A few months back, a certain Marty Smith was approached by a friend who works at the VW design studio in Simi Valley asking to borrow his So Calook hot rod Bug to show to the VW design board. Marty holds an eminent position at Art Center in Pasadena and naturally complied with the request. They picked his car up on a low loader and brought it back a few days later. And that was it, or so he thought.
Then whaddya know. A chopped "hot rod influenced" New Beetle hits the show circuit, accompanied with a film of hot rod Bugs. We're not certain but it looks like it featured Fred's Stinkbug, too.
So it's not a Volksrod as such, but perhaps even the VW design studio are looking in the right direction for their inspiration. I wonder whether they'll use a shot of a girl, naked, bent over a fence for the next set of publicity shots?

I think this is a really cool sign of how big and powerful the volksrod scene really can be, if Volkswagen itself is giving notice. I say right on, sure it's ugly, no I'd never drive it, but I probably would never drive anything I'd have to smog anyway!

Ive always kinda liked the new beetle but always thought the dome roof was a bubble like the popemobile and the bumpers rear were....sort of an after thought. The ragsters rooflines are steps in the right direction, but that rear still dont turn my tires.

I don't like the new beetle. Not so much the look, but the concept... It's a bug, but not really IMO. That being said, the ragster is pretty cool.
