It's really happening...
Re:: Pink notch becoming a track car
I took the purple notch to the track and I broke it at the 4th event. So, I decided I need to take the pink car as a dedicated racer and if it breaks, I am not out an all weather driver. So, that is the plan. I have one more VW race in October to make a pass as it sits before the rest of the changes happen over the winter.
I need one thing though, and used is fine. Anyone have an old single handle turning brake they would part with for cheapish? PM me if you do. Thanks!
Also, because of the plan, I got off my butt and got the 2332cc up and running again a couple days ago. Then I put a full on tune up on it and wow, I forgot how much this engine makes me just hearing it. Only been driven 60 miles in the last 3 years. Sad. Now, if it is driven only 12 miles next year, that is a pile of passes at the track!

Shift light, battery hold down, wheels, engine lid pin and seat belt are all installed. Also removed the wing.

Re: It's really happening...
One of the things that has to happen is the addition of a staging brake. There is no accommodation for an ebrake in the car.
I'm trying to decide between a line loc with a momentary switch on the steering wheel to the front wheels, a staging brake to the rear or front wheels or one of those 'drifting' brake handles (they are much less $ than the traditional CNC/Jamar unit).
I'm not sure which will work best and allow me to preload the transmission the easiest.
Anyone here have any experience with any of these?

Off the deep end... blow through turbo carb set up with water/methanol cooling.

Re: It's really happening...
Maybe try the drag race forum on STF,
for staging brake questions.

Re: It's really happening...
Yes, very nice
I need to read up about turbo, I haven't learned anything about turbo chargers since back in the late 80's, I'm sure it's come a long way since then

Re: It's really happening...
My turbo hats don't fit the current carb bases. Doh! I need to find a way to shorten the securing stand or make the hats taller. But, since this is mock up, I have time.

Re: It's really happening...
Well, the car sat. And sat. And sat. And sat.
Until last week. The turbo set up wasn't ready to fit under the cover for needed safety, so I took it to the track with the dual carbs. No tune up, no race tires, no line loc or staging brake.
So, launched at 2200rpm, spun the worn out radials through 2nd gear and still managed a 9.97 and a couple 10.0x in the 1/8th mile. I was able to drive it back onto the trailer and learned all that has to happen for me to run all the time legally.
1) completely new cage. current one is not tall enough for the 3" needed above the helmet and does not have the bar for shoulder part of the harness. I also have to add a submarine strap since it is open topped.
2) some sort of staging brake or line loc is needed. They starting light is not quite level and the car wants to roll as I go from brake pedal to throttle for launch.
3) while this track usually does great prep, the radials were no match for lack of prep this time. 2.1x 60fts are not going to get it done.
4) if I add the turbo, I have to build a new engine cover/driver protection from the engine bay. If I stay with the carbs, I still need to do some alterations to meet NHRA requirements.
5) I need a legal jacket. As an owner of a topless car, It requires a racing jacket and if I go turbo, it has to be to a higher SFI level.
Last, this will give me the seat time needed before I drive the lightweight LGK3 when it is done.
I'd add pics, but they seem to turn into nothing after I hit post.

Looking for some 26x6x15 slicks as the Phoenix are actually 26x7 and are too wide :(
