Just a (okay, an odd) thought, but have you considered recording a VW engine sound and then playing it back through tiny speakers at the back of the Baja, or the others for that matter, while they're blasting along? Yup, been out working on the Single Cab and did hit my head a little bit ago, why do you ask?

That's a great idea! The trick would be to get the sound to change as you accelerated through the gears, etc. There are a bunch of toys out there that have sound mechanisms in them that I could look at for instance. Come to think of it, I actually know folks who could burn a custom audio chip for me.....Of course-if I had left enough room for the extra electronics.....

Franklin,

You got me thinking and today I had some down time at work. I found a german site that makes 1:6 scale RC's, very nice (and expensive). Just thought you should know though....for all their price

yours are still MUCHO BETTER! The craftsmanship and level of detail is amazing! When my project finally gets under way, some time next year (it is number 3 in line) I may hit you up for a scale replica? Would you possibly be interested?

Appreciate the kind words! If you have a link, would love to check it out. I am familiar with FG they specialize in 1/5 scale RC-they are pretty nice. There are different degrees to this hobby, those who like to drive, those who like to build and variations in between. A lot of the high performance commercial stuff (touring cars, F1, short course, etc) go really fast and need to be simple in detail to save on weight and minimize damage in a tumble. The companies making the most detailed kits are the ones making rock crawlers and "trail trucks". They go slower and can be heavier. This company, Axial, is prob one of the leaders in that category: http://www.axialracing.com/
Everything I build is designed to be driven and I do have fun beating on them a little-but admittedly, I have more fun building. Anyway-sorry for the long winded response. To answer your question, right now, I am really enjoying this as a hobby (read: therapy! ) but if you are talking a year away, I might entertain doing custom builds.

Oh yeah-they are the best! The wheels on this current build are from there.

and yes-this is the dilemma. i do have a beater or two-for driving only-a modified Slash 4X4 with a big a-- brush-less motor and lipo. Prob touching 60mph with it- will take out your ankle clean!! I don't care if it gets trashed though-

i should post my 2012 season r/c dragsters im going wild with this year and building a front engine rear wheel drive 34 ford bodied nitro car

and a hybrid rocket and electric powered car that i might do some isc runs with

its got a 6 turn armature in a neo 8 mag can and two 6 size rockets hanging out the ass

the set up hits it off the line with the electric and about (hopefully fingers crossed) a fraction of a second later the rockets fire (hopefully both at once) and will still be utilizing the electric motor down the track

i work slow on them haha since i have alot going on but hopefully mid march ill have this one done but the rocket car has a long way to go.... since coming up with the frame design took forever and then the rocket housing and im still in the process of bracing the lexan body...... since at fast speeds they wobble and lose areodynamics and ad vibration and cause instability and with two very large rockets firing off and a large electric motor running the last thing i want is a body being floppy causing it to self destruct
so god knows how long on the rocket car but i hope to have the coup ready to lift the wheels by march

I finally have some progress to report after renovating my shop and getting some work projects competed. I sandblasted the chassis, got some paint on it, added interior details and got the servo installed. Next, body will be painted and the rest of the electronics added.
