Some updates on cage and mock-up engine, which still needs the exhaust. Still have lots more to do on the body and interior.

Are you going to make the pully on the engine turn too?

Of course he is. I'll bet that the tiny little generator charges the electric motor's battery while the engine is running; which is why he's building an exhaust.

This is my favorite thread, so far. I think buying extra scale car bodies and cutting on them first is a great (and inexpensive) way to test design ideas, especially for anyone (like myself) who has little or no bodywork experience.

Thanks-totally agree to making mock ups as much as possible.
It not only reduces mistakes, it allows you to sit back and evaluate the overall design before making the commitment to remove big chunks of sheet metal.

Franklin,
Awesome pictures, and great ideas. I am definitely feeling your level of commitment and professionalism in all of these builds. Truly amazing and inspiring to "get in the shop and build". I do have a question. I am looking for Ghia bodies, either R/C or models. 1/10th would be best, but I can go as small as 1/24th I suppose. In your circles, would you know of a source? I have an idea, and would like to see it in scale.....Thanks in advance.

Hey-appreciate the feedback-thank you! Not sure about 1/10th scale. The larger ones I've seen are diecast. Yat Ming makes a 1/18th one, Maisto makes a 1/24 RC in diecast. If you want a plastic body, Tamiya makes a 1/24 model kit. A quick search on eBay in "toys and hobbies" can give you an idea of what's available. Hope that helps.

That does help. When that ball gets rolling, some pics will be posted. Currently trying to finish my son's ghia. Not going to hijack this thread, so back to your builds, lol! I love the baja, I should send you a pic of my '62....yours looks similiar, the only big difference is mine is wide -eyed and I run dual carbs on a 2332cc motor. Yours is probably faster though....lol!

Hey man, when you did the Scout, is that the "actual" color" The reason I ask is, like stated before, I had a '67 that was (for lack of a better term) Mustard Yellow and white. I have recently located a running '67 and I am planning on purchasing it to replace the one that was stolen a bazillion years ago. I can not find the original paint codes for the color scheme I had, and yours looks fairly dead on...

Cool-would love an old Scout (or Bronco)! I did not use automotive paint but was fortunate enough to find a stock hobby paint color called "mustard yellow" that looked close enough. There are a few places on line that have original paint charts available for modern cross-reference. Here is one for Diztler PPG match to the original color which should be "Highway Yellow".

Schweet! Thanks. I had no paint codes or even names to go by. You would think that International wouldn't have that many paint colors, BULL SHIT!!! They have everything from Lemon-Drop-Piss-ant Yellow to Ate-to-Much-Squash Yellow. The local International truck center (I do business with them weekly) could not find any info on the paint codes as (according to them) each "plant" mixed and shot it's own paint so there was no true color that it should be. They could only get me close...

Glad it was helpful info! Good luck with the purchase-

I decided to do some work on my shop since I ordered a small sand blasting cab and needed more room ("should a thought a that before you ordered it!" says the wife...) I went and tore down a portion of a wall to open things up-so work has been slow. Here is where I am now-fenders cut to where I want them, vents filled in. Exhaust just there temporarily for placement. I need to add fender wells and get the interior done.
