Default o/t what is the deal with type 3 notch backs?

i know this is a little off topic but i have heard to many stories, lies ,rumors about type 3 notch backs . i would like to have on but they are super hard to find. were they sold in the usa or ever officially offered here or where they just brought here by there owners? i would like to score one with perfact sunfaided light surface rust paint and lay it on the ground with a big motor. any info on there original avalibility would be great. drew

Officailly the notchback was never imported by VWoA. Some where imported for VW Canada, but all the USA cars were grey market. Good luck with the search, I'm still fixing rust....

Hey Drew -

As was said before, the Notch was never imported into the States. Still they are fairly common. There are 38 of them listed in the Samba classified right now. Finding one with that specific patina'd finish might be tough, but they are out there.

There are likely to be a bunch in Carthage, MO this summer for the Type 3 Invasion. See my signature.

You can also sign up over on www.vwtype3.org and ask around.

Good luck. The Type 3's are great cars.

Go to the KCW site and check out the classifieds. Rusty had one for sale at a very reasonable price. Don't know if it's still there though considering what he wanted.

There were so many notches brought in from Germany,
I figured that's why we had so many GI's statined there.

One for sale Philly craigslist at the moment. Been on awhile at current price. Might be able to snag for less, had extra sheet metal too.

I'm pretty sure mine made it to the States as part of the European Delivery Program. I really have to get the full story from the grand daughter of the original owner.

They're out there, you just have to be willing to go and get it (them). Two years ago, I picked up a severly rusty one for next to nothing, but I had toi drive across country to get it. It came with enough parts to rebuild it, which is what I did.
