Default WHAT IS IT ??

What the hell is this for? It is bolted to the tunnel in the seat belt mounts. Car didn't come equipped with seat belts, but the mounts are there.

Your car did originally have seatbelts. That's where the lobster claw type buckle latched onto for both front belts.
The latches were noisy and unreliable, and not continued after '67.

Looks like part of a can crusher, for aluminum cans, just missing some bits.
But yeah, what he said.

It's for the passenger ejector seat. You should probably hook that back up.

Ike:
I had something shaped the same but round tube the whole length in my '72. I took it out because the seat belt straps were non-self-retracting, rotting, and the passenger one was sliced halfway through :P

I'm much happier with my $20 a piece non-retractable lap belts :P

If only it was a can crushing, ejector seat, handcuff mount? You guys never fail to inform and, amuse. Thanks for the info, I've never seen that style of seat belt. I've got an old set of Simpson 3"lap belts that will be a lot safer.

Early BMW's had the same kind of seatbelt loop, but I haven't seen one since before I could shave...
