The prototype will be 3-d printed out of ABS plastic, If it all goes well, I'll have the bellhousings CNC'd out of aluminum .

Kewl

That chunk of metal is gonna be spensive, not to mention the machine time

Why not make the prototype a lil bit bigger to compensate for shrinkage & use it as a pattern & have it cast, don't know If it would be any cheaper

Just a thought

I checked around. It shouldn't be too expensive, especially out of aluminum. Light and it will machine quickly.
Considered casting but I need it to be exact and balanced.

Ms. Purp, you do some really imaginative work. Love the use of the skull with the beautiful paint work and details. Just a slick composition.

That's just for the chunk of aluminum right
Remember, I know a bit about machining work, CNC work isn't cheap, wasting a LOT of material cutting it from a billet
I know a bit about casting as well, uses a lot less metal, making the pattern is the expensive part, but probably cheaper than doing it the other way, a lot less machining work as well

Check into it

No, that was for 2 pieces made.
By the way, I got my 1st Masters in sculpture and design. Did a lot of bronze and aluminum casting. That's why I love hearing about your metal forgings and such. If I can find it, I know of an amazing book on patina recipes that you'd probably drool over.

I have a few patina recipes in a notebook somewhere in my house, so yes I'd definetly be interested in it

I'm gonna get my waste oil burner going this year, I could get it going just by buying an oil pump, but at $400 it's $385 out of my price range, but I'll get it some day soon, I can always build me a siphon type burner, I've messed with then for countless hours & just haven't had any luck due to smoke & my compressor just couldn't keep up, I don't wanna hafta fix it anymore

Well I'm headed out to fire up my kerosene heater & get to cleaning a bit more

Hey Ron,
Here are 2 of the books. There are 2 more I think. I'll keep digging. I know you could get these books much cheaper at half.com

https://www.amazon.com/Patinas-Silic...8433268&sr=8-3

https://www.amazon.com/Patina-Colora...YG8EFE7A4J8ZNH

And these two are right up your alley!

As far as the smoke goes, have you tried recycled frying oil? Didn't know if the flashpoint was too low.

A buddy of mine runs his shop heater off used oil from a local Chinese restaurant. The only drawback is that every time I go over there during the winter, I get this craving for stir fry.

Thank ya, I'll hafta some how mention those books to my wife & how much I could use them, she always asks me about buying shoes, I tell her to buy whatever she wants, I so don't like her shoe thing, but I can use it to my advantage

I've never tried frying oil, you could get it from any restaurant for free, now it's tough to get because everyone wants it

You can get used motor oil to not smoke, I just haven't spent enough time trying it, what I have is a oil burner from a house that uses heating oil, my neighbor gave it to me a few years ago when they put in all new narural gas lines, they ran it to his house right behind me, he gave me the burner & 150 gallons of the oil, the burner sat so long the oil pump seized up, I've tried everything, I've even gotten my hands on few used pumps but none of them work, the one thing I haven't done is put the parts on my surface grinder to tighten up the clearance between all the parts, I can do it since my grinder now works, I also dug out all the oil pumps yesterday, once I do get a pump working my plan is to mix the heating oil with used motor oil to the point where I can use more motor oil, it burns much hotter than heating oil, I'll use propane to preheat it, turn the oil on, then shut the propane off

It's been done, I'll get it going, I just haven't messed with the oil burner in the last 7 or 8 years

Oh yeah, I have a huge coal furnace in my garage, I tried wood in it, I end up spending more time putting wood in it than anything else, that I plan on using only used motor oil in, I have a few designs to try

Definitely look the books up on half.com. SOOOO much cheaper. I got a $120 medical book for .75 cents once. Usually I get them 50-70% list.

I've found my various manuals at a local used book store where I've picked up an old motorcycle manual on a 'just in case' basis. I found the RE-5 manual at a bike swap meet for ten bucks. Lucky for me the prior owner had copies of various factory bulletins stuffed inside.

Yesterday, being a 'Tinker on the Single Cab' day, I started pulling out the old replacement T/S switch. Today I finished installing the second new one since to original quit a couple of years back. I now have nice bright flashing lights when I want them.

Replace the speedometer cable last week because it was erratic then quit. Replaced the replacement with a brand new cable and housing because it was squealing.
Bonus post~ Tomorrow the speedometer unit gets replaced with a used unit because the needle is being erratic and squealing.
And pull the column apart and see if the turn signal and high beam unit is fixable or needs to be replaced..........
