The new bike thread...

Anyone into bikes? Show em if you got em. I need some advise on tire selection for the new ride. A 60's schwinn 2 seater (for the ladies j/k). It takes 24" wheels. Should I go 20's all around or a 20 in the back, 24 in front and rake the fork a bit.

Sweet bike!! I wouldn't mind getting one of those myself. I don't know If I'd go 20s front & rear, try it and see what it looks like.

Hey a Schwinn Twinn! I had one exactly like it. Does it have the two speed rear axle? You pedal forward then back real quick to shift speeds. Cool bike! I think it would be cool with the same size tire in a big white wall. I tried to find tires for mine but they were no longer available.

try the lowrider bike sites. They have lots of w/w tires on there. I wish I hade a 3 wheeler. Maybe I'll convert this when I get bored. Not sure about the 2 speeder, havent tried that yet.

sweet I'm not able to ride a bike again yet but it was a big part of my life before my accident Example: in 2003 I didn't go to mi highschools 10th year graduation celebration because I was half way across the country on the gte big ride across america. I was a saftey driver and I rode half of the days but on days I did ride I went twice the distance or more. it was a charity bike ride from seattle to DC. after the ride was over I rode from DC to newyork. it took a while but was well worth it.

I currently own 3 bikes. a full suspension bike a 10 speed fuji and my original bastard bike made from my first 10 speed and a frame found when walking arround ann arbor. my original 10 speeds frame had cracked in half and I found the frame at the ann arbor art fair stripped of most parts one week later.

I'm sure you can find 24" wheels and tires for that bugger - they still make plenty of them for smaller mountainbikes and cruisers. For the coolest cruisers out there right now, check out Felt bikes...

They make their own extra-beefy wheels and tires, as well as some really cool frames - maybe we can get them to make a Volksrod edition.

I recently scored an old in-hub three-speed wheel with coaster brake. It figures - a month after I sell my old Dyno stretch beach cruiser.

The Designer for Elektra thats responsible for there cool bikes used to be with Dyna/GT. He had a portfolio site in which he chopped a Shobox ford as well. Very cool stuff.
I love Bikes I just never ride them much.

Going out and taking this pic instead of cleaning up after last nights snow & ice storm, PROVES that I have no life



Got this Columbia for free. An old guy died when his house burned down. His rich relatives took everthing out of a huge detached garage and put it all out by the road for "free". This was the only thing left when I got there.

It was a single speed and was usless except for flat ground or downhill

I had a free asian "english bike" that had a 3 speed rear hub. I had no idea if I could remove all the rear spokes to swap in the 3-sp hub AND get it all back. But I just copied the front wheel spoke pattern and got it right.

In true hot-rod fashion, I did not completely finish it....as in NO rear brake It had a coaster brake on the old hub, and the 3 speed hub is for a caliper brake. I'll get to it.........


These bikes are wicked topheavy and you have a hard time turing around in a road without dumping it.

It has original tires, seats, grips etc..passion metallic PINK


The other bike is my cruiser, nice fat soft seat, etc.

Jessie James bike purchased at Wal-Mart on clearance isle for $50.00 !

Don't have a clue what I'm going to do with it , but thought it was a good buy and bought it, took it home and hung it from a rafter in my garage.

Maybe I'll fab. up a set of ape-hangers and bend a longer seat pipe, curve it over the rear fender and ride it around the neighborhood..... .

Oh to be a "Kid" again.......wait whats that I hear, is it my mommy calling ......naw it's just my wife telling me dinner is ready!

haven't posted in a while.. here's a coupla mine:

knockoff of a Dyno frame i built a few yrs ago:


Mohawk industrial trike. Stretched frame, stock rake. Box replaced with vintage cooler. Perfect swap-meet cruiser.


The next trike project - will have stretched frame, altered rake, springer front, rat-fink style shifter.


Also getting ready to take a torch to one of the newer Schwinn Sting Ray "occ" bikes..

this is my two seater bike project i have been working on in my spare time for a while now.

picked up the bike at a swap for 20 bucks. once i stripped it down it looked like something someone had brazed together all the welds were a bronze color i just couldnt pass it up when i found it. its not done yet but its coming along rather well.

took the handle bars and wrapped them in a rough rope and dipped the ends in that wrench dip for grips came out kinda cool



hammered the seat out of some 22 gauge steel to give it that rustic look lol punched holes around all the edges and weaved the rope through to tie it in with the handlebar



its coming along rather nice i have taken a ton of pictures during the processs so one of these days i will get to uploaded them all and make some kind of page out of it. just something to do when its to cold out to work on the car.

I built this stretch a few years ago. The frame is 100% handmade. I think the other stuff is PHAT cycles, they make some cool stuff

My latest project, just back from the welding shop. 11.5" stretch in top tube; new gooseneck bottom tube; widened triple trees for a 4.25" wheel up front; sectioned and widened handlebars (repro Schwinn Krate mini-apes). It rides better now than it ever did in stock form. These things are borderline unrideable stock, especially for a 6'3 dork like me.
