Me neither. Unfortunately this is just the epoxy sealer and hi-build primer. Color is still a ways off.

Didn't know they made clear primer.

Yeah....it is supposed to be the bees knees (probably why Steve hasn't tried it yet). Supposed to be able to see when you are getting to close to breaking through to the the sealer/metal below.

Only negative I have read about so far is that it is apparently harder to see the fine sanding scratches. Figured I would try it out.

I should have a full tech article out with pictures (although I am not sure how good the clear primer will photograph) out around the beginning of April next year.

car looks AMAZING man!! I'm on the edge of my seat to see how you do the bag set up. Thank you also for the great pics on the type 3 pan and front end. it's hard to find great pics to visually represent the differences of the type 1 and type 3 front end

Keep up the BEAUTIFUL work man I love learning from your ride

Progress!!!.....

Really.....

With pictures.....

Honest....

I broke out the Harbor Freight cheapo HVLP gun and turbine tonight and put about a half gallon of the epoxy sealer on the floor pan and the underside of the body....

it looks pretty cool with some fresh paint and all one color.

I also gathered up all of the hardware for bolting the pan back to the body. Chased all the threads on the bolts and weldnuts. Did manage to break off one tap so will have to dig that out before joining the two and getting it off the rotisserie.

John, it's been a long time since I've logged on here (longer since I've owned a VW), and I was glad to see this project as a top thread. The car is looking great!

Major step done tonight......

I mated the floorpan back to the body.

I recruited my daughter to help me lift it onto the body on the rotisserie. After a bit of pushing and shoving it into position, I got most of the body bolts back in.

Now I need to get some seam sealer on in a few places, shoot it with some rubberized undercoating and then get it off the rotisserie so I can get the rear fenders on.

Great feeling to be starting the re-assembly process. And having some extra space in the garage again.

Looking good John. Its a great feeling to have it back together for sure.

Instead of the rubber undercoating have you looked at the bedliner stuff? Use a HF sandblaster siffen gun and shove the hose in the gal and spray away. Works great.

The stuff is called rocker guard… its not bedliner, its for rockers and dually fenders etc.. I think 3m calls it body schutz or rocker schutz. If you ever look at the rockers on some new trucks they have a texture under the factory paint. That’s the rocker guard stuff. You have to have a body schutz gun to spray it though.

Napa has some in a rattle can made by Martin senior, they just call it "stone guard" and then the color *eg "stone guard white"

If I remember correctly a can of BLACK is like 14 and WHITE is like 20 . I do remember there is a difference in prices just for color though

Car looks awesome. I know how good a feeling it is to finally see a project get some color on it

Too funny....

I ended up getting some Duplicolor Bed Armor aerosol cans today. Two cans did the entire underside of the pan. I will need a couple of more cans to finish off the wheel wells and the engine compartment and the underside of the front end. I need to get some seam sealer and do a few spots before I spray on the bedliner.

I liked the way it went on. Will probably do the inside of the fenders and stuff with it too.

I don't think I will have a problem with the pan rusting. It has two coats of MasterSeries, two coats of epoxy sealer, and a coat of bedliner.

Here are a couple of pictures....tough to get good pictures from underneath.

The car is a bit bottom heavy with the pan on and it doesn't rotate on the rotisserie as easy now.

Next step is to build a cart for the body and get it off the rotisserie.

Not a lot accomplished on the Sled this weekend due to helping my buddy Mike run the coloring book contest at the Cruzin the Park car show this weekend.

I did manage to get out Sunday morning and get all the seams in the fender wells seam sealed. Just need to pick up a couple more cans of the bedliner material to get them coated after getting it off the rotisserie.

Looking great! What kind of seam sealer do you use? I want to hit the seams on my Single cab's bed before we hit it with Hippo-Liner.

I used 3M Seam Sealer.

Got the body cart built today...

and started the process of getting the body of the rotisserie and onto the cart. Used the floor jack on the front. Needed the milk crates to get it tall enough and still be stable....

Used my engine hoist on the rear...

Front free and clear...

and the rear...

Then I lowered it down onto the body cart...

and finally wheeled it back into the garage...

Now I can make more progress...including getting the rear fenders welded on.
