Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Looks like hooking up a new reserve cable and to the ‘new stock type tanks valve will get me by until I finally install the new wiring harness and have a working gas gauge. Truck is running great.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
I’ve been using the Single Cab for hauling lumber for home projects. The Blue Max receives a lot of nice comments and I hear fun stories of how VWs are a part of the pasts of many.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Today I read an article in the May issue of hot VWs about the Volkstream, a really trick heavily modified ‘59 VW van. It sports a ‘69 ball joint beam and rack and pinion steering. Anyone out there know where the rack and pinion might have come from? I installed a ‘71 ball joint beam in the single cab with power discs during the V8 swap. An upgraded steering system sounds great.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
I just googled “rack and pinion for aircooled vw”. There’s a few forum topics and vendors selling kits. Probably mainly for off road.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Thanks. Last year I adjusted the steering box and it’s working fine. But there’s always room for ‘improvement.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Had one of those 2:am wakings where I kept thinking about a steering swap when the voice from somewhere kicked in with, “Wouldn’t it be a lot smarter to install the new Ron Francis wiring harness that’s been patiently waiting in your shop for years?” Looks like some time in the distant future for the rack ‘n pinion.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
I heard my cousin talking about putting an electric power steering unit into his 57 Chevy

I'll pass on the details once he gets that far, he's still on the interior and wiring

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Interesting couple of weeks. Two Tuesdays ago Sherrie took a bad step and broke her right ankle. Ten days following a surgery, which was two days after the fall, she’s finally outside via a ‘walker to enjoy a shady spot on our deck. I’m getting ready to make us lunch to help celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary which is today.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
105 degrees out today. I took the VW into town. Having the Safari windshields are just great. I opened them, moved the latches back down which allows for an opening just over 1/4” wide. It makes a huge difference when moving along. I also had installed an opening window at the back of the cab, which helps.
At the hardware store a couple was looking over the truck when I came out and told me stories of their parents’ VW vans when they were kids.

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
105 is hot, hasn't been very hot here, yet, I'm sure it will warm up here before summer is over, I may hafta put a safari window in mine
I love all the stories I heard pretty much everywhere I stopped at when I was driving my Volksrod
I hope to be driving my rail buggy soon, I just haven't had much time to work on it, the days I'm feeling good I end up spending with my wife, she hasn't been doing very well lately, she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about a year ago, it took a toll on her these past few months
Ron

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
Today I didn’t even have to take the truck out of the carport to hear stories of ‘old VW days. From people walking by, there was one of a early 70’s van exploring Europe, to a ‘69 bug which was ‘lighter than the ‘new VWs and “more fun.”

Re: V8Transporter's V8 Single Cab
I need to stop watching all the dog videos and try to get more done, but I'll get to it
I'm hoping to cast a couple VW emblems this weekend, then I might try to cast a piece for a tube bender, unless I find 2 weights large enough, if I can find them I'll turn them on my lathe, I just need to put brakes on my rail buggy and I'll be driving it weather permitting
I like all the VW stories, I miss driving it too, I live at the end of 2 no outlet streets and we don't get much traffic, and I think Shmitty scares everybody off that does make their way down
Also today the 14th is my youngest son's 29th birthday, he wants to get tested to see if he can give me a kidney (I may take him up on the offer)
Ron
