Looks real good the man.

Do you still want the louvers that have been riding to work with me?

Yes, Cat box, still needing those louvers. Just been a little busy.

Here's a front end shot with the headlight buckets, trim and glass test fitted. They mounted perfectly with no gaps.

Still working on converting the '37 buckets from reflectors to sealed beam H4. The only polished trim on the front of car will be the headlight trim rings and a center strip on the grill. Everything else....painted!

The passenger side, lower edge of the grill got pushed in a little. Need to press that lower corner out and forward. Oh joy. Must have been pushed in prior to moving back home?

Uncle Kenny's garage musta got a hold of the grille as you pushed it around.

Let me know as they have been riding around with me since the bug run.

Yeah, I don't know engines. You could have said a 5HP Tecumseh and I'd have to believe you.

For you body and paint gurus...

If I sanded through the high-build to bare metal, do I need to re-shoot more high-build primer, sand again, then sealer, base and clear? broke through with 400 grit.
(assuming I work the little high spots out first of course)

OR, can I leave them (again, assuming I bump them down a little) then go straight to sealer, then base and clear?

Shold be able to see the spots I'm referring?

The outside of the driver side front fender is turning out great:

Thanks for your help.

I would say shoot some more to re-cover them. That primer should be self etching which will help your paint stick better.

And yes, I agree with Ryan, this is one of those 'SEXY!" builds!

Hi Build is just thin body filler.

My uneducated mind thinks Sealer is fine.

Production shop wise, we would a rattle can self etch and paint it. But that is on something that is a daily driver that gets the crap beat out of it all day long. *plus the shop I'm in is know for half assing* . Personally If it were my car I would bump it down a bit, throw a quick spot coat of primer over it, sand 'er down and go from there

Thanks for the input. I'll tap them down and if I find more (hopefully not) I might just dust the spots real quick and go from there.

Now about sealer? I have multiple sheet metal panels and parts that will all get painted and I know it might be unecessary to waste a quart of sealer on this, but would it be ok to shoot these parts in sealer while I get the rest of the body ready for sealer prior to color? Could I just then lightly scufff the sealer before spraying the final coat of sealer and go to color afterwards?

Thanks for the comments. It''s really starting to take shape. Getting a little too anxious for color. My wife picked the color the Ford GT Metallic midnight blue. I think the paint code is LA? I sure hope I don't screw up on the bodywork!

Some sealers give you a window to paint without scuffing, otherwise a scuffing will be needed. You'll have to see what it says with the brand you are using, btw, what brand of paint/sealer/ primer are you using? Some one here may be more familiar with it if they have used it them selves.

both of the painters I have worked with never used sealers. My boss swears by it, but there is a HUGE difference in the painters finished products and my boss'.

The last one I worked with was helping me with the 66 buick I painted. I told him I was going to seal it white so its all one color and then shoot the blue over it. (there were two different primers on it, a dark gray and a light gray)
By the look on his face when I said I was going to seal it you would have thought I slapped him in the face with my wiener. "I didn't spend 3 fucken' days going over that car with 200, 320, 400 and then 600 so you could spray that orange pealy bull shit sealer on the car. You want it one color, paint the fucker white then paint it blue."
After he calmed down and I asked him to explain a little better he said the way he looked at it is that the sealer is not needed. If you don't have the confidence in your primer use a different primer. You spend all that time sanding it to perfection, then you spray this shit over the top of it that never flows out and it makes everything look like poo.

As a paint specialists I can you this, we in the industry use sealer to create a uniform surface to apply a top coat over if you have no break through’s then I would pass on the sealer and finish it out in 600-800 grit wet/dry paper. You will always have a better overall appearance when you spray over a cured surface. I work for a larger paint manufacture as a technical instructor and your welcome to give me a call with any questions just send me a PM for my number.
