Default Top Line adjustable struts

I bought a set of Top Line adjustable struts at a swap meet for my 74 Super. How much resistance should there be on them without the springs on them? Mine pull out easy and after they are fully extended they will pull themselves back in . They are new and were made in Mexico .

Do they say gas on them? If they do you have a problem, if they are just plain old oil filled that is what they do.
