Next pic will be you pulling a wheelie in the driveway with it ? Smart move switching out the points. Those dual set ups are prone to break down.

Once again I’m having a problem with the side stand switch setup on my ‘82 Yamaha 650 Seca. Last year I swapped in another switch and clutch switch because the bike would die when I put it in gear. Since the bikes been running a sidecar for years the side stand never gets used. Anyway, things were going fine until a month ago when the problem returned. I’m looking to bypass the system. Any ideas, suggestions?

With a very simple ‘bypass of the clutch and side stand switches, the old Seca is running just fine. It’s funny that with the sidecar I never use the side stand, so maybe the clutch switch was the real problem. But it’s fun going out on the rig. At the hardware store in town a young couple wearing masks and keeping their distance were interested in a rig so they could take their small dog and three year old daughter for rides. They each have a bike and are thinking about a three wheel family ride.

While she was shopping I spotted this gem wandering around the streets of Sydney a while back.

No front brakes, so air cleaner, no speedo and rigid rear end, way old school shovel.

On first look I thought the rid around the tank was air brushed, closer inspection
it’s raised and molded into the tank.

Nice alley trash!

A couple days ago I finally got around to going over the side stand switch wiring to finish up and discovered that one of the small ‘push connectors’ had moved back into the plug so contact was pretty sketchy. With it back in place, all is well.

With the Seca running well, I’m doing a few mods I’d planned sometime back. The Euro and Canadian 650 Seca came with an oil cooler, but for some reason not the bikes sold in the U.S. With the extra weight of the Jawa sidecar and things heating up a bit I figured a cooler might be a good idea. A few years back I paid about 75 bucks for two worn out 650 Yamaha cruisers and a cardboard box of spares. One thing I discovered in the bottom of the box was an aftermarket cooler and an adapter to attach the lines behind the oil filter housing, pretty much like the factory setup. Today I made up a pair of lines and checked over the cooler. I’d planned on changing the oil, so this should go well and the rig will be ready for Summer.
