Re: I build things...only smaller....
Congratulatons!! Did they tell you about the trophy? Oddly, the height of the trophy is based on the overall height of your ride. The one for my single cab was about two feet tall and arrived in a really nice wooden box. I'm calculating yours to be about 3/8ths of an inch, um, tall....

Re: I build things...only smaller....
Okay, I'm waiting for a third pic of the Jeep(s). This time from way back, with one replica sitting of the hood of a second larger replica, sitting on the hood of the full size one.
Do we get a hint about your next project?

Ha-Sure-how's this-I didn't build the big one though.
My next project (as it sits right now) is a Beetle version of the van. More desert/Baja inspired. Still sorting out parts but I will post pictures.

Wow! I think I have new inspiration for my chop top! Anyone in Salt Lake/Utah up for the challenge to reproduce this chop on my 67? Hahaha. Buisnessman coupe rat rod.....

Thanks! Yes-most of the bodies are styrene or ABS plastic. I use any number of methods:
If the parts I am bonding are the same plastic:
-There's a plastic solvent that bonds plastics together. Most hobby stores carry it.
-Depending upon the joint and material thickness, a heated blade pressed and worked across the joint will actually "weld" the plastic together. I use this method whenever I can.
If the plastic parts are of a different material:
-I usually use hobby grade "crazy glues". Welding techniques with solvent or heat will not work well on dis-similar plastics.
-Sometimes I laminate a strip of material over a joint from the inside and use "Shoe Goo" w/clamps to bond things together.
The only exception are parts made of polypropylene, the plastic usually used for plastic lawn chairs, pill bottles, spray can tops, paint buckets etc. It is designed to resist paint or adhesives and is a pain to deal with. I would avoid using this material.
Please let me know if you want more info-

Re: I build things...only smaller....
If they don't know about you on The Samba it would be too cool to put up some pic's of...... oh say the Bus....... and watch them scream and Then their reaction when they realize you didn't cut up OG metal
I'm thinking a Class 11 Heb would really get them started

Re: I build things...only smaller....
It's been a while, so i figured I'd update you all on a new project I've been working on-
I always wanted to replicate a scale chassis pan in aluminum for my next build. I wound up working with a buddy of mine who has a small CNC machine. It started out with a full scale drawing that I had to re-size and scale to fit my wheelbase. Then from the drawing, I made a cardboard template to fit the existing suspension pieces I am using.

Re: I build things...only smaller....
Next comes the 3D files-this is not the full pan becuase it needs to mate with the existing parts-that's why it's chopped off in the front and back-

Yes-cnc for now-some of the details seem too deep for acid-but good thinking! I am in East Providence-the other tip of state.

Re: I build things...only smaller....
Here are the parts mounted to the suspension-please ignore the wheels and tires for now-they are just there for measurement purposes.
