Default Front wheel travel

Hi guys,

Does anyone know how much the travel of the front wheels is (suspension going in)?
Or how much room you need between your steering arms and the body?
I tought i had enough room but Then i lowered the bug and my steering arms just cleared the body... so now i notched the body to give them some more room, but is it enough? If i have to make more room iím going to have to cut in to the support beam under the fueltank and i dont know if i want to do that... Well i do but only if it is necessairy....

I'm lowered with adjusters and spindles and have no clearance issues. But, is this when people use that bushing that flips the tie rods to the bottom of the spindle? You must be really cranked down.

i am running (well euh.. hope to get it running) a 8inch pegleg extender, lowered adjustable beam (at the lowest) and lowered spindels. ground clearance is not the issue cause i'm on 17 inch Desoto wirewheels.
the issue is the gap between the steering arm to the spindel and the body, i dont want to get it hung up or bent when going max travel on the suspension...
once i get over this hurdel i can hopefully get to paint...

I'm thinking this might be the time where the steering rods might need to be mounted to the down side of the spindle arms. I think the arms need to be retapered, and can't recall if there is a special or regular tool or kit available for this.

Can you pivot the box, to lower the end of the pitman arm ?

I'm trying to remember, but I believe there is a stop on the beam that locates the steering box. If you rotate the box, you need to fab up a new locating stop. I have also seen pitman arms heated and bent down....but don't know if that is a good idea as it changes a lot of angles and might damage the box unless it is taken off first.

You need to flip your tie rods with a kit like this to help with your clearance issues.

i'm kinda in a dilemma
or
buy the flip kit, break everything down again, buy the drillbit, buy 2 new tie rods (again)
and flip the tie rods... i'm not to keen on putting bushings on a exentric push-pull joint eighter
or
remove the fueltank again and cut up the front some more...
this will mean that i have to cut in to the bigger structure that holds the fuel tank in place but i'm less afraid of losing structural integrity 'cause i raised the tank with a 2mm thick tubesteel frame (3cmx3cm) so then maybe i just need to tie the tubing and the body some more together...

cheaper, faster and it would get me down to paint quicker..

pivoting the box doesn't really help the problem cause i would be hitting the far-out side on the body, the box and drivers side have clearance enough... and pivoting the box would mean another difference in the steering setup, angles...
