Did you run them in safemode? Did you try scanning in both deep scan (system scan) and all files/folders modes? Also are the pop ups always the same sites, if so which ones? Some spyware gives you specific pop ups only and are occasionally very very tricky to clean. Often only 1 specific program can clean that program (not free), which makes me think if it's the same company that made that spyware inthe 1st place...

With Ad-Aware,you want "full system scan",which is on the second screen.

I found a new Spy-ware/ad-ware program. It's called "SUPERAntiSpyware" I us it with Adaware and Spybot on customers computers.

All free and all very good IMO.

Oh, just copy the name into Google and you will get to the wed site.

I've never heard of that program.

Here are some independent opinions:

You might have to run Hijack This,
and post the results on an anti Malware forum.

The other option is reinstall the operating system.

Some of the paid spywares are far superior than the free ones. If you know where to look you know how to get the for free. The ones I like are: NoAdware, AVG AntiSpyware, and Spyware Doctor

I have an older computer, Pentium 350mhz CPU with a 10 gig hard drive running Win 98............ I was thinking of running some version of Red Hat on it for fun. I was thinking mostly for e-mail and web surfing. I have an a version of red hat that my son and I played with about 5 years ago (I don't know what version tho) I also have red hat 8.0 that a friend gave me that I never installed. My main question, what is the most user friendly version of red hat and what are the odds of getting it to work with a wireless network card or should I just figure on having to get the internet through the ethernet cable?

The bad thing about Mozilla Firefox and Norton antivirus and all the other virus blockers is that they may be the best for a short period of time untill some new virus comes out then you just gotta get some other virus protection. But for now Mozilla and Norton are good virus blockers.

Tequila:
With any software run the most update version possible.

If your computer is capable of booting from the cd drive try a few of the Live Linux distros. Slax, Knoppix, Damn Small Linux are a couple. If however that computer is too old to be able to boot from the cd drive like I suspect then doing a full install would be your only choice. Personally I never cared much for Redhat, always prefered Slackware myself. Great thing about linux is there are so many to choose from. Try a few different ones out, the worst that can happen is you nuke your hdd and start over.

Bigguy: use a live version of linux to surf porn. Its easy and bullet proof, and no tracks left on your computer when your done provided you use tissue.

I looked at that geekstogo site that you linked they have some pretty good info on there. If you read through there they have a few general practices to help remedy, like resetting and reenabling the system restore so that when you get rid of the offending software it doesnt get reinstalled by windows.

This thread sounds similar to the problem you are having. It also runs down how to fix it. http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Need-...html&p=1027827

Personally, I favor Ubuntu, specifically the Kubuntu remake. (I prefer the KDE interface to Gnome.) I started with Redhat, then moved to Mandrake, and then to Gentoo, and found Ubuntu to be my favorite.

The age of your computer will of course be a deciding factor. Another good one for you would be Vector Linux. It's intentionally made light and fast for older hardware. They have a good forums section, and the developer himself checks in there and answers questions whenever he can.

I'm about to go ballistic here. I'm one of those souls still on dial up.
Someone give me a clue, is it my box or the phone comps freakin lines and pushing of dsl.
A few weeks ago it started. My pages would just stop loading. Refresh a page, change the site, whatever, my lil puter icons are blue then they just quit. My IMs, I'll be typing away, hit enter and it goes bonk bonk, and I see I'm disconnected. Same thing in the one chat one I was in, hit enter and nothin, suddenly, I'm logged out.
My outlook express gets timed out, no server found.
I constantly hit refresh and it all goes back to working.
I called the phone comp to check lines, usually it's ants in the local box down the road. The guy said it's fine and clear, no static. Monday night I found an acct in my user files, I checked it out and then deleted it and it's files. Dumped my mail box, scanned, cleaned, defraged. I also switched phone jacks in my house. Yesterday, it ran fine all day long, I thought , ok, I got it right somewhere and that's that. Today, the same shit as last week but worse. I got booted out of Im, timed out of email, and it finally booted my off line completely , would not reconnect for over an hour. While offline, I called the phone comp, no work is being done and they've had no reports of other problems. I inquired about dsl, well at $50 a month, plus renting modem $10, buying at $95, and 1yr contract hookup at another $50 or flat out$145 , This is out of my monthly leftover range. Oh and the guy who checked the lines monday said it was $29 amonth~ liar~ plus, I have to get an 8pin jack for my box first~ and I only have a pent1, not sure if it can handle it anyways.

My question is, are these problems my puter or their lines? I can dump ,scrub and reload if needed. I need help!

Do you really have a Pentium 1? Still?

How long since your last full reload from scratch? How old is the modem? Win98? have you tried a different phone cord?

I get to try this again~

winxp home, vers 2002, intel celeron processor, 564mhz, 256 mb ram. uilder said he installed a pent3, found out a year later, he did not, plus we had to go get a modem (board thingy) the night we brought it home cuz his did not work.(I've never been back to this guy either)

I have avg, avast, ad-aware, spy blaster. And did a 2hr scan monday at bitdefender.

I know it's back in this thread but how do I get to safe mode. That's not covered in my idiots book.
I haven't tried the new cord yet, think I have one if not, will get one. I did switch plug in boxes yesterday.
This was built back in 02?03 I think. Last dump and scrub was 2yrs ago, 3 days worth.

I shut down , unplug phone line and turn switch off on back everynight.

Pentium 1 did not get up that fast. It's either a Pentium II or Pentium III class CPU. XP is probably struggling for all it's worth on a system that low powered. I am guessing that modem was ~$20, which would make it a Winmodem, and that draws even more processing power.

Safe mode - start mashing F8 as soon as the system get past the BIOS screen and before the XP screen starts.

My thought is, try the phone cord first.

the modem we got just says 56k on it, plug n play. About $50 back then.
I know xp is struggling with this processor, but I can't seem to get the $ to buy a real one to work it. Now that the whole darn units cost less at walmart. Someday I'll upgrade.

I found another cord, and it's in, so now I'm switchin pages to see how long it takes to dive.

Will do the safe mode tomorrow .
Thanks guys!

There is a way to see the % of resources available.
If the percentage gets too low,it will cause problems.

Too much junk in the start up routine also hurts performance.
Many programs automatically install themselves in the start up rountine.

Deleting crap you never use, then running defrag, helps free up space..

You can go into Internet Properties, and delete all Cookies,
and Temporary Internet files, including Offline Content, will free up some space.
