Got the contacts on the t/s switch cleaned. Then did a check at the old style fuses. All was fine, except at the one powering the flashing unit. A quick cleaning of the contact points where the fuse connects and, viola, turn signals! Gotta’ make certain there are brake lights and then we’re back on the road. Next I bring down the Ron Francis wiring harness, cause messing with the old system in getting, well, old.

Wiring is on my "to-do" list for my retirement.. I'm 15 years into my service now, but because I switched jobs in October, I have to commit to some extra time.. So now I got 7 years til I can retire..

Been telling the wife for years that when I retire, our "forever home" MUST have a large garage because I'm gonna gut my bug and rebuild it from the ground up.

Pull it inside, yank the engine, trans, and everything else, pull the body, redo floor pans, chop the top, install roll cage (I wanna drag for fun someday...), gut the electrical entirely and build a harness custom to suit what I want to install. custom seats (thinking buckets from an old fox body, but may change my mind if I find something I like better..) build custom storage where the back seat is. Gonna need a pro-street tranny cause I'm gonna finally build the 2276cc I've been collecting parts for since 2008.. still on the fence about doing it NA or turbo, I have a brand new set of Spanish 48IDFs, but turbo just sounds like both a nightmare and more fun :P make a custom fiberglass dash/console, etc, etc, etc, etc..

I figure if I plan it to take like 3 or 4 years to do everything I want to do, in Volksrodder fashion, I should have it done in just under 10 years..

We will be house shopping this summer for our forever home. Let a few slip away, but that’s what I get for looking when I’m not ready. I hope the perfect house comes along, again. Big garage is first on my list and a big kitchen is on hers.

That's a very typical... My wife as well... Gotta have a big kitchen... and wants me to have a large work area/shop/garage and some major storage areas.
Sounds like you got a keeper too.

With the T/S switch apart I found some corrosion. Contact cleaner helped a bit, but working the switch and a lot of good old WD-40 and all is well.

I toom mine for a drive Friday afternoon, front brakes need something, I also need to rebuild a steering box, still need to do something about the starter as well

I did buy some parts last month, new pushrod tubes, and a wiring harness, I just need some more wire and crimp connecters

I'm gonna have my wife practice welding sheet metal and have her weld all the fender nut holes closed, I can't see good enough to weld, I wanna pull the body off but I don't know if I can get enough help to lift it, all my friends are broken

I also need to fix my wipers, I now remember why I never put new wiper blades on, they quit working about a year ago, I finally replaced them, when I turned them on my headlights went out, I turned the switch off and the lights came back on

Either way I need to finish everything by the end of May

I have had several bugs so when I built my '63 with a 1600 single port with a later model doghouse fan housing. I got new heater boxes and took a leaf blower hooked to the back and blew out all the crap out of the heater channels. It filled the car and there was some stuff in there I don't know how it got in. It has a good heater just don't get stuck in stop and go traffic or you can't see thru the windshield. Thats a good tip about RainX antifog I'm going to try that. Temperature doesn't scare me, but the 22 years I've owned it it has never been in the snow. Salted roads in Mo. destroys VW's. Bought a '73 Thing new in '73 it had a gas heater but it was the coldest car I ever owned.

Back to back tests show no improvement. But at first it looked promising. I would think it would work. Maybe on our smaller engines.

An electric set up would be constant speed, I would think.Both super charger and turbo are set up to operate based on engine RPM. The more you wind up the engine, the more air is pushed through and that results in more power. A limited air increase might help a bit on the bottom end, but would probably loose effectiveness very quickly as RPM goes up. Now, I may be very wrong about this as I don't have a degree in engineering. Just 60 plus years of cheap ass back yard auto hacks, so many of which didn't work as well as hoped.

Some of the major manufacturers have been experimenting with Electric Turbochargers for years... I don't remember which one, but one of them had a promising version of it floating around out there a couple of years back... Maybe Mitsubishi or Subaru or somebody like that... If I remember right, wasn't;t too long ago Garrett was romancing this stuff with a weird kind of electrically assisted turbo to remove Turbo Lag... Been a while since I read this stuff but this is the stuff I took away from the readings...

As long as the windows are clean I'm good,

It gets dustier sitting still than when I drove it all the time

A coupe of days ago I finally installed the new fuel gauge that ‘partners with the sender in the replacement fuel tank. It works great. In true ‘Shelter In Place form, I have the single cab in my ‘enclosed metal carport, safe and dry from the occasional passing rain cloud. Next comes some adjusting of the steering box, some panel welding ‘n such. Each time I inside I wash my hands. My nails haven’t been this clean in years!

Nothing new for me, I'm always quarantined at home

I did adjust the valves on my Volksrod yesterday, or I should say I checked them, took all of 15 minutes, took longer to pull the exhaust off so I could get the valve covers off, I have a real disadvantage, Shmitty wants to lick and bite my ears and feet when I'm laying on the ground, it is entertaining

Next I'm gonna pull the carbs off and clean, adjust them, I also pulled my welder out, the next dry day
