New rear slicks and suspension. I think I like the stance...

Cool, our local track is running. You have to schedule in advance to get on the list and no spectators. Take video!

No fun if nobody is there to watch, I haven't heard much about whats going on at the track here, I did read a few months ago that it was gonna be closed most of this season

The tracks around here are open. Full house the last few weeks. I need to get back. I have been once and ran my street bug with a bone stock 1600 but went a couple of rounds, bracket race on a pro tree.

Never ever raced with a pro tree. I hope to one day. Been welding on my junkyard turbo header.

It is a blast. A VW reacts a lot quicker than a heavy automatic car. I ran in the 7.50 index at my local track and went many rounds.

My limited drag racing experience was back in the late Ď60s running my Buick powered Ford coupe at the Ďgrudge racesí 1/4 mile. How do the 1/8 mile times compare?
My best time with a borrowed set of wheels with slicks was a 14 flat at 101mph. Those nights were really fun.

Up until that evening Iíd been running my rear street tires and lowered the air pressure, but ran in the low 15s and 96mph or so. After going through 5 early Ford gearboxes and two rear ends just driving on the street, I was running a Chevy drive train. That night Iíd helped a guy with a problem with his Chevy coupe and he loaned me this wheels with Bruceís recaps type slicks. That made a big difference.

Man, this stuff is humbling. I have been dealing with a dead cylinder. Weeks of frustration... I checked for intake leaks when this appeared with carb cleaner and couldn't find any sign at the dead whole. So today, I rebuilt a different carb that I had, put it in place, tighten everything down and fired off the engine, only to have the exact same problem. Augh!!!

So I decided to use a propane torch to see if I had missed something, and as soon as it got near cylinder number 2, at the base of the intake manifold, the cylinder came to life. After 3 carb rebuilds on the 1st carb, rebuilding an entirely different carb and putting it in, it comes down to what I and others had thought it was in the 1st place. A freaking intake air leak.
I am not sure why the carb cleaner didn't find it, but I am using propane for now on!

Had a cylinder running hot on the other side, so I pulled the carb/manifold to regasket. Went to tighten and the stud pulled out of the head. I can't seem to catch a break. Grrr

The Sweep the Floor engine is alive!

After tearing 2 gaskets trying to open them for the heads, the 3rd is on and all 4 cylinders live! I can race Saturday!
Now, to change the slave cylinder and bleed it so I have a clutch, put the seats back in, find the old engine cover, fix the access cover so it stays closed, put the tonneau cover studs back in so it is rain resistant, torque the lugs, adjust the fuel pressure, tighten the linkage, add the breather, and... whew, that's still a list!

Oh, and this time, the STF engine has great oil pressure!
