Have you seen the movies: Long Way Round and Long Way Down with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman? In Long Way Round they ride around the world, starting from England and heading east and in Long Way Down they ride from England to the southern tip of Africa. After watching what they ride through it makes me feel like a little girl when I don't want to ride in the rain.

I dig the Long Way... series. People get all uppity about them having the support crew and stuff but they still ride some pretty incredible places (mostly) on their own. And besides, why not have the support crew if you can afford it like they obviously can.

Fortunately not. :) I managed to "fix" my overflow issue for the time being (coated the leaking float), so I'm not necessarily in a hurry on the single carb setup right now. I will experiment with it after I get some steady cash flow, though.

I'm thinking about running a bypass air valve from the filter to each individual intake runner, which will allow me to tune each cylinder separately.

That's pretty cool, speedie! Who cares about OG, anyway.

I believe I left off at lower brake caliper mounts...

Here are the uppers, with the special bushing pressed in:

Brakes work perfect now.

Also, since I decided not to run the battery in the slot meant for the starter, I figured out a way to run it in place of the center stand.
Welded up a bracket:

And mounted it to the pinch bracket:

Out of sight, out of mind.

The tachometer drive cable was broken, and was kinked because I have everything mounted so low, so I bypassed it and will run an electrical tachometer.

Now, for the real eye candy:

All the hours of work were suddenly worth it when I ripped up and down the driveway about 30 times. The driveway is 1/10 of a mile, with two nice, steep curves. Man, I can't wait to get this girl on the road.

Still have a little bodywork to do on the seat, need to weld on the tank retainer strap cover, and I need to upholster it, but other than that it's done.

Oh, you guys might get a kick out of this. Recognize the horn?

(FIAMM, off of a '74 super beetle)

The switch, which I made the housing for, is off of a several-million dollar x-ray weld inspection machine. It was donated to the school and I thought they were going to scrap it out... Then I found out they plan to keep it. Oops.

No way in hell am I going to get caught putting it back on!

Now that's just nice! Even if you had to stick with the fourburator system rather than a single.

wow that is fucking sweet. I've been so focused on the Yamaha 650's that I never even glanced at the Savages. I want to build a bobber and have little interest in a cafe but that is truly a thing of beauty.

Yeah, that is sweet, and there are quite a few of them around. Ive seen something similar with a GS 450 twin. A 650 thumper in a little cafe bike would be hoot.

I used to have a fellow VW guy around here a few years back that had a hardtail rat bobber he did from a GS. It was pretty fun just buzzin around town on. I tried to get him to sell it to me several times. He would split with just about anything else in his garage but that bike, then he moved to Tennessee and the fucker put it on Ebay a month after he moved, it sold for half what I offered him several times and I didn't have any money to bid at the time.

my ex-father in law gave me my bike a few years ago when he decided his arthritis was getting too bad to ride. i had ridden it around a few times... it is a fun little bike... being a big fella i dwarf the thing, but i just want to tool around town with it anyways. one time he rode it from allentown pa to fayetteville nc to visit us. when he got home he bought a cavalcade for his highway ridding... ha ha ha ha
