Re: Attempting Stripes
Hey Carlene, if you don't mind I'm going to show my color theory students your work and how color is supposed to "pop". Some just don't get it. Obviously you kick some serious butt at it!

Re: Attempting Stripes
Be my guest Jeff. I just wish my camera would get the colors right all over my boards and catch the details. There are some pieces that have so much little stuff added. The long black one above is as close to true as it gets. The purple on top stands out more though.
My pinhead album has more in it, show anything ya like.

Some with a 'process blue' don't show right. Only in certain lighting will my camera actually catch everything true.
http://speedysigncenter.com/wp/wp-co...12/oneshot.gif I have almost all the colors on this chart. Of course, monitors will vary it. Black is my favorite back ground.
Btw, I don't understand that color theory stuff at all, I just do what feels right

I'm afraid that would just confuse me more
Have you taught them how to see color value, I think that's the right term?
Example:
Many follow a rule in striping, on a dark back ground, to do darker shades first then get lighter as you lay another color on top. That whole lighter colors are forward dimensional thing.
On light backgrounds, do lighter first then come forward to darker. And it keeps the design from looking 'choppy'.
So on black which goes first, red or blue? On white?
The long design above, actually 2 designs I drew for hubby's bike. I am putting them on in varying shades of silver. Yet that piece is in wild color. He couldn't see it. Then I photoshopped it in b/w.
Then he got it.

I'm just having fun painting, it keeps me from flaming you guys

Re: Attempting Stripes
We've been going over Notan right now and working on weight and balance. They are doing color gradients using the primary colors and color density. They just started on tessellations. Yes, I keep them busy!

Re: Attempting Stripes
Thanks Carlene!
Notan is a balance between black and white where the negative takes on the strength of the positive to the point you can't tell which is on which. Think checkerboard or zebra stripes.
A tesselation is a repeating, interlocking pattern. MC Escher was a master of this.
We now return to our regulary scheduled VW debotchery.....

http://www.bonewerx.com/triple40tour.html
Here's a link to a tour I have sent a scroll panel in to. They are still getting things set up. Just got my info corrections sent in, I was shown in Pa, not Ga and my name was spelled wrong. I think the first stop is in Seattle. And I just found out, panels are for sale! And I will receive $ back.
Scroll down and check out the listings.
I'm a newb amongst alot of pros~
If it's in your town, be sure to check it out!

Anyone local enough in Seattle to swing by and check the above link out? Supposedly, things went up and are being shown NOW.

Re: Attempting Stripes
Wow! This thread hasn't been active in quite some time. Might as well kick start it again....
FInished this up for the charity auction at Torquefest in May. It is a metal sign approx. 3 feet tall. All 1-shot including the woodgrain.
Couple of detail shots.
