Default I am going to light my bug on fire!
Re:: Well, at least the exhust

I was at the local "NEW" cruise-in (this was an actual Cruise night in downtoen Jacksonville) on Saturday and saw several of the old style cars and the bobber bikes are going back to the "flamethrower" exhaust. I was thinking that might be fun to try on the beetle to give it a little bit of wow factor, or maybe it will go "boom!" Anyway, i found this site and thought this kit might work, what do you guys think? http://www.hotlicksexhaust.com/videos

If it interups the ignition, I hear it washs the cylinders with unburnt fuel and strips the oil from the walls. Guess it is not good for the engine.
But I like the idea of flames.

You could just make your own & put them anywhere. I made some on my lowrider bike.

Yea, i saw your video before, very cool. This system is totally seperate from the ignition, it is self sufficent, so it does not use raw fuel nor does it rely on the ignition system for it's spark.

Right, so you can put it anywhere you want. Easy to make.
It kinda makes sense, washing the cylinders with gas, but doesn't it do that anyway? I've never heard that theory before. To make them shoot out the tail pipes, don't you just weld a bung near the tip, thread in a spark plug, wire it to a dedicated coil, toggle the neg from the eng coil to the flamethrower coil. Rev it up, flip the switch & voila? I've heard too the distance of the plug to the end of the tip determines flame color & length.

Yep, that's what they say on the website of where I bought the kit. It looked pretty simple, I'm going to try it.

Oh you bought it, sorry, I was trying to help, didn't realize I was being redundant. Cool shit! I'm curious to know how well it goes. I've heard you need a big motor, (more gas & exhaust volume, & more momentum when you rev it). I like this project, have to post pics as you go.

One of our local shows had a flamethrower contest for a couple years, so I thought it would be fun to make a colored flame. I won two years in a row!! Of course, I was the only competitor so...

I mixed up methanol (Heet) and boric acid (roach killer), makes a nice green flame. There are other colors you can make up, just google "colored fire" or something like that.

You probably already do, but if you don't have a fire extinguisher, GET ONE!! I never had any issues but always kept one handy, you never know.

My setup was a tupperware bottle with an old in tank fuel pump, a hose that adapted down to 1/8" copper tube, a fitting welded in my stinger that the tube ran through, pinched the end of the tube to act as an "injector". Then I had a spark plug toward the end. I tried the plug farther down the stinger first, but it didn't work very well.

The first year I jumpered another coil off my ignition neg wire, it made the engine miss badly but it was just for the contest. Grump took the pic, I think he has a video somewhere.

The next year I wanted to use it while driving, so I bought a spool of spark plug wire from napa. I ran a wire from my gas heater up front, and unhooked the fuel supply to it. Then I could just turn my gas heater on for spark, and put the methanol pump on a pushbutton. This worked great!

Something about a bug of all things shooting flames seems so... so... wrong. Like daring Karma it kick your ass.

I would like to hear some details on the system you built for you bike. I assume you are using propane? What about nozzles? Also what are you using for an ignition source? I would love to have a propane system on my Volksrod

Check your messages. I'd post here, but (1) it's not my thread, (I'm sure he would be cool tho) & (2), soo many kids check my vid on YouTube, & always ask how to make theirs shoot fire. Since my name is the same here as it is on YouTube, I'd like to avoid the kid who searches my name on google & finds the thread where I posted the instructions to burn mom & dads house down. I might be paranoid but that bike & video is more popular than you think. Anyone else curious, ask & I'll pm it.
