Default Grimey Build-up
Re:: AZ Garage Build

Aight...throwin myself to the wolves! Time to chop it up with yall! These pics are from my AZ Garage build....doin all the work in my garage with a couple buddies when available. I really started to tear into her about a month ago, working mostly on Sundays....all constructive criticism is welcome!!! Hope you enjoy!!!

No set plan really....I just started chopping and cutting until she looked good....made sure the rain rail looked cool and went with the flow! Im using what I have and I'm not really trying to spend any loot on it unless I have to....of course I will make sure she goes and stops well tho. Recently picked up a 1776 for it and a 1600 for the car in the background (my buddy's project).

Any questions feel free...all suggestions welcome!

Hey Grimey, glad to see you are working on it! What does the back window look like? I have a '63 that will be getting chopped later this year, but just a couple of inches.

Progress is good!

i will post some pix in a few....I kept it the original size w/o taking the window out. Managed to keep it intact, I wanted a larger window for viewing in and out; and to allow sunlight in. I thought about shrinking it down or doing an oval graft, but this was the cheapest way with less work; no custom glass or even having to get new glass....I hope it works out.

If Im in the area and you guys need help, i will be glad to offer a hand. Once you start, its hard to stop, so the ball rolls fast! Just do it!

Yeah, I was thinking you kept it the original size, just wanted to see how you did it.

I could be coaxed into putting a few steaks on the grill if you want to head south some weekend...LOL!

I have a couple other things to knock out before I start the '63, so it will be at least a few months. I have way too many projects and am still playing with the order I want to tackle them in.

I am coming up to Tucson next week, so if you tell me what shop you are working at, I will stop in and say hey.

Well got some more work in this past weekend! I heated up and bent a couple ribs to support the roof, worked pretty good, i have a couple more low spots to work out; but the roof has a very nice shape, better than i thought it would be, and it's super solid! The posts are all almost welded up and grinded down, nice and solid.

After I get the everything tightened up a lil more I will begin to tackle the rear side windows and make that rear angle match up better; and the sides of the back window shouldn't be too difficult. After that it's just stitching up the insides really good and make look presentable.

I stopped by Chirco this week and picked up a new clutch plate, thow-out bearing and the hardware to put the 1776 in! The tranny has already been gone through and beefed up. I ordered a beam extender three weeks ago that I'm still waiting on, hopefully I hear from him soon. Overall Im happy with the progress Ive made since starting a few weeks ago and I can't wait to finish!

Well, the beam xtender came in this week! Was able to put the front end together and worked the welds around the posts some more. Sat her on the ground to see the stance and figure how much I still need to drop. Still gotta finish up the welds and put some power in the rear to make it scoot.

The front end kit was pretty easy to install! Drilled out the mount holes so the bolts could tie the extender to the brace through the bulkhead. Today I'm gunna run over to Chirco and get the new front brake lines and such, maybe some drop spindles.

Thank you sir! My garage def help get things done! It's nice to be able to have the space to accomplish things and leave the tools right where their at when done for the day....my friends take advantage of it too! It's not the most equipped, but it is spacious!

Update: yesterday I cleaned up the front end some more and began to replace and extend the brake system. This weekend I planned to finish up the welding but Fathers Day puts a bind in working on it. So to stay on schedule im guna try to work on it a lil bit everyday this week, take this weekend off of it then try to get the engine in next weekend.

Since I have more time than money I decided to swap the wheels off the sandrail to the rod.....I think it looks cool and it was free, not a big deal since both vehicles will probably never be used at the same time.....

right back at ya!

Update: Haven't gotten to work on the car much this week, been putting in time at the office....oh and Father's Day. The weekend after next I will be on a much needed vacation with the fam so no work done then either. BUT, this weekends plans are to finish up the brakes and the welding. I think my cousin might come down from Phx to help! He seen some pics of the build and can't lay back and not help! If I can get a couple more buddies over I might be able to start the powerplant install.

Guess I missed seeing you there. It was a good weekend though, lots of people and some pretty sweet rides. Nice score on the tank.
